Hi all! My name is Andrew, I'm 21 and a little new to knives.

I've had a few, but nothing real fancy. Never paid more then $100 for a knife if that tells you anything.

I was at the local knife shop today and seen a Gill Hibbens Claw II Karambit Clone by United Cutlery for $30. I'd kind of like to get into Karambits, something I can carry on my weak side to supplement my Glock or Colt.

I know it's definitely not top o the line, but looks like it might make a decent starter Karambit.

Do NOT buy UC knives for carry!!
They are designed as fantasy knives in general, mostly wall hangers. I have seen a few of there knives that are more robust but never one I would carry let alone for SD. If you want a Karambit for backup look into these brands instead please.
Mantis knives -cheap but user quality, not a great knife but a better bet than UC imo.

I would buy there production modle if I was looking for an EDC karambit.
Emerson and R.J. Martin also make great karambits but R.J. are more expensive and well worth it.

and welcome to BF!!

also if you plan to be effective with an offhand knife train hard rain or shine.

Hi HotRod! BigJim is correct, go with a production Derespina Model 10. Well made, reasonably priced, and the designer is a fellow BladeForums member.

For more info on the off-hand-side kerambit, visit the BladeForums Tactical Practical (under Training) forum, and listen to whatever Mercop has to say.

Welcome! Seriously, dude--I don't have any other options for you for $30, but if there is a running joke on this forum, United Cutlery is usually the punchline. UC knives are for looks--for show--and not for serious use. I suggest you wait a little longer and save a little more money and get something you can depend on.

If you get the chance to ask Lotus1972 he is a veritable cornucopia of kerambit love.

-Spyderco makes a great little Kbit and check the trade section I think lotus has one up still.

Hey guys, thanks for steering me in the right direction. This knife shop was blowing smoke up my Arse saying that UC was quality and how sad they were that they went out of biz. IT looked a little cheezy, but not too terrible.

Hot Rod if you just want a beater Kbit to play with, I have a no name folder made in Taiwan. I can ship it out to you.

That would be awesome! I emailed Desperina about the M10, but a beater knife would be cool, might find a use for it around the ranch too.
