An Oil Or Paste For Storage

Hello There People I Was Wondering What Suggestions You Have For The Long Term Storage Of Knives . Is There A Prefered Oil Or Paste To Protect Blades From Rusting Or Discoloration ? And Will Using Oils Or Paste Peel The Gold Plating Some Of The Le Knives Have ? Any Opinions Or Suggestions Are Welcomed

I'm certainly not an expert but if I had to put my knives onto long term storage I'd wrap them up in a soft cotton cloth and put them in a container with desiccant to keep the hunidity down. I'd be reluctant to apply any kind of lubricant to prevent corrosion. You could try applying a paste wax to the brass before laying them up.
 
Ren wax is ideal and used by a lot of high end collectors.:thumbup:

hi mike good info i do have the ones not on display wrapped as you say im using a sort of tissue paper and the cabinet does have the dessicant in it but i was thinking of the knives that i have in display cases while i do like to admire them i dont like to have to polish them all the time usually the first day with a new knife is the last time i touch it it pretty much immediately goes into its display or cabinet only to be seen through the glass from then on i am trying to stay away from brass due to its heavy tarnishing the ns is the ticket for sure in that regard but thanks for the info

hi doug i had never heard of that stuff before but i just did a quick search and this is probably the stuff i am after thanks for the steer:thumbup: :D
 
Ren wax is good stuff. I also like using liquid lanolin which is essentially sheeps wool grease made by invotec. My dad put me onto it. As the coal mines here in the Hunter Valley it's used as protetion & lubrication of machinery. It's desinged to be used on everything from leather, wood through to metal even recommend for marine protection which I haven't tried.
