If only this one could talk.

Most of the markings are gone but the workmanship is excellent. You can still see where someone removed several precious stones from the silver sideplate, and look at the rounded and fluted spine. The hilt has extensive silverwork over a large horn(?)handle.

Nice
& even better superlatives.

If I can count properly, this is 31" overall length?

How's it feel in the hand?

That is the way I feel about most of the old things I see. Too bad they can't talk. Oh but, the stories they could tell. :)

Wow, even with age, wear and parts removed, still an extremely beautiful piece. This is one reason I enjoy, and suggest to anyone who makes it to Chicago, visiting Art Institute downtown. They have a room that isn't huge, but has a very nice collection of functional weapons and armor that are very much art. I love a useful piece, such as camp knife in my avatar, but it sure is fun to see pieces liek this that while functional, are also beautiful. Good to remind makers(myself included) that just beacuse a piece is functional, it doesn't have to be ugly.

THanks for sharing.

Here is a better picture of the flutes running along the spine. These continue to within 1/4" of the point. The blade is actually straight, and the distortion to the image is caused by my camera lense under high magnification.

N2S that is truly gorgeous. I really like the direction that your collection is going. The yataghan is one of the most graceful blade shapes I have ever seen. I've considered getting a chasepot(sp) french bayonet, just because they're relatively affordable, and have the yataghan blade.

BTW, I have an Indian Firangi on the way that I think you'll like. I'm about to bust a gut waiting for it. Maybe by the end of the week...

Nice piece you've got there. If it could talk....
