Hey Guys….

An old friend who has been out of my life for a very long time,, 19 years to be exact, has just come back into my life today….

19 years ago or so,, my now wife, back then girlfriend and I were headed on a shopping/dinner trip with my parents to Detroit…

Of course stuck in my waistband was my favorite and much used knife at the time, an A.G.Russell “Sting”. A knife that I carried since I was about 16 or so...

My Wife, coming from a strict Christian family was against carrying of any type of weapon, for self protection.(I’ve corrected that over 19 years). So basically I caught Hell for carrying a knife, removed it, and stashed it in my parents car, or so I believed.

Well for the last 19 years my wife has been blamed for “making me lose, my knife”…

Ok,, so fast forward 19 years into the future to today.

While cleaning the house and rearranging furniture my wife found a knife that hadn’t seen the light of day for many, many years.

“I found a knife” my wife says. I get up fast as lightening. A knife? My minded raced with the possibilities!!!

Holy $&17!!!..Theres the knife that I lost 19 years ago.

“Is that the knife you blamed me for? “ she asked..
Yaa it was!!!

So if you are reading this Sweetheart.. I really do apologize for blaming you!
Boy,, am I in the doghouse now..

Hopefully my famous apple pancake breakfast will straighten that out just a little in the morning!!

Anyway,, Glad to have the knife back.. A little dusty,, a little rusty,, but nothing the buffer and a little 000 Steelwool didn’t fix….

So tomorrow after breakfast,, it gets a new edge on the 2X72, and a new sheath for a long lost friend,, and one of my first true loves..:)

One more thing, where was it hiding for so long?!?!?

A Sting tucked in you're waistband when you were 16! I believe they're double edged? If I had a daughter you wouldn't have been seeing her much. :p Just kiddin' :) Cool that you got you're knife back and it sounds like breakfast will fix things. :D

Ok it's great that you found your knife but...... Clean your house a little more often then 19 years and try painting it once every 5 years. :barf: :p

::cheers and champagne..now stay the hell away from my future daughter =p (ok, I'm 17 and I'm probably gonna hear that sometime soon)

Id be made up if AG Russell started making them again. Must admit I prefered the Sting1A, always wanted the black chrome model that he made & to this day kick myself for not buying one! Same goes for Robert Parish Survival Knife, read a great review of that by Leroy Thomson & really shouldve bought one.

Hey Ebbtide..
That's Sweet..

Mine is a little worse off,,not bad at all though..Mine is a 1977

Actually the knife was found under out Booze cabinet that hasn't been moved in probably 30 years.. Not sure how it got there at all,,since theres no way it could get under there...

Apparently the original design will be back according to the AG Russell forum on Knifeforums...looks like Columbia River will be making it and should be available in Feb '06

It is amazing how something that a person believes is lost forever can miraculously turn up in the strangest place. My favorite Imperial pocket knife was lost under our entertainment center for several years before I found it.

The A.G. Russell Sting is a great knife. I have always wanted one, but they are rather hard to come by. You are lucky to have one, and to have found it.

If you ever give thought to selling your Sting, please contact me.

I would have thought you would have been crafting a new sheath, but care to share the recipe for the apple pancakes? (I'm a chef).

Congrats in finding your long lost friend!! You have some serious sucking up to your Mrs. to do though!

I think it was a Sting,--
I had a similar-shaped knife, but with a rosewood handle, leather sheath with clip that rode very comfortably in my boot during my military service.

How nice to find something like that again.

SAK Collector, thanks for the info. I hope they do re-release it & hope nothings changed. Now, If only Cold Steel would re-release their Urban Shiv, thats another one I like the look of.

I sure hope A.G. specifies that they make the Sting to the exact same standards as the old ones. Usually when an item is brought back into production, they look superficially the same but are vastly inferior in almost every other way. The manufacturer often figures that the customers just want something that looks like the old item and are either stupid enough to be fooled by a shallow resemblance, or too cheap to pay for the same quality.
