Here is one that is relatively uncommon today, an Imperial HH-9 sheath knife. Unfortunately, some previous owner decided to "skin the cat" and scratched the blade to high heaven with sandpaper in order to make it shine again.

I see it in the 1936 and 1937 Imperial catalogs, but it was dropped by 1941. Recommended retail for this knife was $1.00. I deviated from my own rule of thumb and gave almost twice the msrp for it though. Using my inflation calculator, what cost $1.00 in 1936 would cost $14.81 in 2007. Twice MSRP adjusted would be $29.62 and I gave $25 for it. Heck, I've not seen many sheaths from 1936-40 that have survived in even this condition, rough but all there and correct.

:thumbup:Dang nice, Codger got the nose ,eyes, and ears of a Bloodhound on a trail when it comes to nice finds in the Knifey world:D:p!!

The handle is black plastic of undetermined type. Some research is in order. I doubt that it is bakelite. Polystyrene thermoplastic wasn't introduced until 1938. Dupont produced acrylic in 1936. Vulcanized rubber is a possibility. Vulcanite and Ebonite were two trade names for this.
