Boys, I just bought what I'm assuming is an old 118. The first thing I noticed was the finish on the blade, it has a bright finish, more chrome like. I compare it with another 118 I have from the 80's. The blade on this newly purchase knife is shorter than the other by 1/4 " and is narrower. It's stamped Buck 118 U.S.A. but the printing is upside down (the top of the letters are towards the handle). The handle is slimmer on this new one and the butt has a difference...more stream lined. Can anyone enlighten me on this one?

without seeing pics.... I will assume.... shinnery:someone buffed the knife.shorter slimmer blade: someone has sharpened badly so it was reprofiled and resharpened .upside down stamp:she would have been a collector.Buck 118 U.S.A.:before 1986.You did not mention a sheath or box or any paper work.

I never thought of buffing. The blade doesn't appear to have been sharpened down that much but of course one never knows. The profile of the blade has some differences as again does the handle. Interesting. The sheath is the holster type but no box or papers. I bought it for $18.
Thanks for the reply!
