I'm going to get an oven soon and I'd like to know what else I'm going to need in order to heat treat blades.

Is a Rockwell tester required equipment?

Thanks

Marty

Since your getting a furnace I think up will be using stainless? You will need to get some stainless foil to wrap your blades. There are two types and both have different temps, make sure which one you get. As far a Rockwell Hardness tester it helps, but you can check with a machine shop to see if they would check some pieces that you done.

Do you plan to do cryo at some point? A dewar(sp.?) and some liquid nitrogen could be a nice addition.

Where are you from in Kentucky? I'll be moving to the Elizabethtown area in February, kind of towards Bardstown. I looked up West Liberty where Ricky is in my atlas, and that's a far piece from where I'm going, but I'd like to get to know the closest makers to me, along with any blacksmiths.

Todd,

I'll probably have to cryo at some point. Does anybody know where to get a dewar? Ebay? What about liquid nitrogen?

I'm in Irvine, it's about 50 miles east of Lexington.
