An overdue "thank you" .... oh yeah, and some pics of a Stag GEC #25

I bought my first stag knife a few months ago ..... it was wintertime and bad weather for taking outdoor pics. So I never did get around to doing a write-up of it. This thread will rectify that. However, this is not so much about the knife itself as it is about the journey that led me to it.

I had no idea what to look for (good things), or look out for (bad things), when buying stag. I PM'd a member here asking if he would look at some dealer pics of a knife I was considering, and give me his thoughts/impressions. This he very generously did and I ended up not buying that knife. But I had STAG FEVER and I needed a stag knife!!! Thus began a series of emails between myself and him, with links to various dealer pics, and the beginning of my education.

He gave me his detailed thoughts on probably four or five knives, over the course of a couple weeks - what was good about the knife, and what wasn't so good. If you look at the knife I bought, you'll see the mark side has some pretty nice stag; the pile side is somewhat flat. His thoughts were ..... "Well, it's kinda like a woman with a great chest and a so-so butt". ;) At any rate, all the knives I/we looked at had one or more small issues. But at least I was no longer blind. I bought my first stag knife with my eyes wide open.

If you've hung around this sub-forum for long you would know the gentleman of whom I speak, if I named him. I don't feel I have the right to do that - he may not want to have his name associated with a coyote like me, or he may fear that he would be inundated with requests for help in buying knives. But ya never know ..... he may step forward, and that would be cool. I'll leave that up to him.

I have three reasons for posting this thread:

1) To publicly say a belated "Thank You" to this gentleman, who was so very generous with his time and knowledge.

2) Just to show what great members hang out here in the Traditional sub-forum.

3) And finally to show some pics of a knife!!! ;)

Nice knife Keith. That ought to start you on a long journey down the ole stag trail. Great pics too.

Nice knife there, Keith. I guess you're one of those guys who prefers to watch a woman enter the room, rather than watch her leave. ;) :D

I'm honored by your story, and it was a genuine pleasure chatting with you. That knife should make a fine gateway drug to a lifelong stag addiction.

Nice one, Keith, it's really hard to go wrong with GECs stag. You'll have fun with "stag fever."

Hey Rick! Glad you checked in.

Just so there is no confusion for anyone whatsoever, this Rick, right here, right now, is the man in my story! Thank you again my friend!

Yeah, ya know ideally I'd like to see her both entering and leaving, but when you've got the fever you take what you can get. Next time ..... next time. :D
