An unlikely blanket!

The other night I was held over at work. Some paperwork needed to be finished for my signature and would take a couple of hours to finish. It was about 0200 hrs and in the 40s. I went out to my car to catch a nap wearing my street clothes and a Stashaway Goretex jacket. My torso was warm and I put the jacket on backwards and had the hood covering my face and all was well...for a while. My leg started to get cold. There wasn't anything else available so I took the shiny silver plastic windshield sunscreen and wrapped it around my legs. The change was instantaneous and significant.

It got me to thinking that it might have a place in a BOB. It is sturdier than a space blanket. Provides some insulation. Could be used easily as a heat reflector. I will play around with it and let you know.

Hoah! (Its an Army thing!)

Hi,

Good idea, you are correct that the windscreen sun reflector is more durable then an emergency ultrathin blanket.

But you can already get emergency blanket that are made of the same composition and are a lot sturdier and thicker then the normal emergency blankets,
They even come in a Silver/Orange side configuration. They are bigger so harder to stash away and a lot heavier but reusable, it is called All-Weather Sportsman's Blanket.

Go see it at Campmor:

it costs $11.99

Best regards from Holland,

Bagheera

Those blankets are very similar to the casualty blankets used by the army, except the army ones are OD/Silver - hemmed along the edges w/ grommets for tie off points.
