Hey everyone. I've recently rediscovered what a terrific little fixed edc knife this is.

Got me to thinking. .. as a self proclaimed steel snob, does anyone know of a similar production knife that has a bit better steel and a full flat grind?

Pic of mine just because. ...

I should have stated, the steel "upgrade" in this case would be a carbon steel. No super ss's

Something like d2, o1, a2, etc.

Thanks
Drew

The LT Wright Patriot comes to mind (I can't remember if it's flat grind or not). Or something from Bark River (not flat ground).

That offering from LT Wright looks good, thanks for the heads up!

There isn't anything wrong with 1095 at 55-57 rc. It just isn't anything special is all, it works, but i enjoy keeping my knives very sharp and 1095 at that rc keeps ya working. Rowens 1095 isn't magic but it is good for 1095.

That's probably closer to the size of an Izula but an awesome suggestion nonetheless. Well played.

ETA:
I know you said carbon steel but how about the production Fiddleback Forge Runt available from a variety of vendors (I know the one I would suggest but not 100% positive they are a sponsor and if I can mention)

S35VN STEEL
OVERALL LENGTH: 5 1/4"
BLADE LENGTH: 2"
BLADE STOCK: 1/8"

Or if you are dead set on carbon steel I guess you could try and fight it out on Fiddleback Friday's for one of the customs which I guess would be O1

I really love the look of that candiru. I think the rowen 1095 is a great steel. I love using my Izula and candiru. Especially when I am out camping or hunting or hiking. It's ease of sharpening on just about anything makes it very easy to carry with me.

Guy at SurviveKnives is taking preorders for his new GSO 2.7 model. I've had one GSO 4.1 in M390 and two GSO 3.5's in 20CV and 3V, and I consider these a great buy. Something to stoke your fancy. He also sells discounted seconds which are likely just as good...cosmetics probably.

I am sure Bark River would have Plenty to offer in Numerous steels, likely Elmax, 3V, cpm 20cv (m390) and more "generic" 01, 154cm, d2 and 1095, etc...

Knives ship free sells them, among others. They should have everything you are looking for regarding steels and scale materials from g10, to micarta to mammoth ivory, if the look piques your interest.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm intrigued by the offerings of BRKT but have no idea how to maintain a convex edge. Could u just reprofile the edge to a "V" from the convex or is there something with the rest of that main grind that would reduce the blades cutting performance?

Just use it as it is, when it needs sharpening, just sharpen it as a v grind. It will take a little time as you will have the rounded shoulders to contend with, but once they are knocked down you will have a fine knife that you will be able to maintain with no worries.

Some people are put off by a factory convex, but don't let it dissuade you, It is only steel after all. Grind it to whatever you are confident with, and use it your hearts content.

Now, to add some confusion to the matter...

For the cost of a BRKT, you could get a Really nice custom piece from one of the incredible Craftsmen here.

Just about any steel and scale material or combination of materials, liners, pins, mosaic or not... You name it. You could have Your ideal knife made For You.

I'm tracking. I have a bunch of fixed blades from the many talented folks here on the knife maker exchange. I'm probably going to go that route, I'm in no hurry. I've got PLENTY of knives to hold me over.
