An Urbanized Adventure With A Bushboot

I have recently learned that I will be traveling to Nashville for a day or two while they do the MOHS procedure on the side of my head. So I have been trying to tie up some loose ends first. I have been working on a couple of different projects related to "urban survival" type studies. Urban survival is a very broad subject and which aspects of it you are dealing with largely determines the preferred cutting tools for me. In a natural disaster type setting I like having a rough use knife I don't mind hurting. In the lecture I'm doing I will be going over how that can be similar to a wilderness survival type knife, but also what the differences are and why those are important to take into consideration. In other urbanized situations discretion is more of a concern. That's one reason the Bushboot is an edc for me. It serves as my base layer cutting tool, then I add a larger tool in kits when the situation calls for it. I thought I'd share the pics from the recent outing to work on these projects.

Some of the odd things you see connecting to wi-fi at hotels...

Similar but VERY different survival knives.

I like the discretion of the Bushboot when I am dressed light and traveling light, but it has the attitude I like in my edc knife. Handy to have, easily tucked away, and can be more effective in close quarter self defense, like elevators, than other methods.

Handy dinner companion as well :)

Back at the room, I made the window open all the way so I could remove the annoying reflection from the glass there and work on more of my artistic photos. No balcony at this location, but I like the location... I am displaying some of my art at a local venue now as well.

Then hitting the leftovers the next morning. Plastic butter knives don't work very well on leftover steak...

The next night was more wandering for photos, but most of the photos I took I can't share as I won't retain intellectual rights to them... but dinner at Mellow Mushroom was nice :)

Then the next day it was back to work in other areas... Bushboot still in my left front pocket :)

good stuff Brian as usual. I two love the Bushboot. Great knife when teamed with a pro-Duke as the "hard use" knife. I have to say this model, the Lonestar and Hiking Buddy really fit the EDC purpose very well.

Here's mine....

Awesome post Brian! Good to see you posting more of your picture threads. Always enjoyable. Be well!

nice spot. never been. really enjoyed seeing pics of the city. thanks. cheers.

Very nice pics Brian. The colours are amazing.

I also love the Bushboot. I wish Andy would make a guard less variant though.

Interesting thread, Brian! We need more urban survival techniques with the Bushboot

Good to see you out and about doing what you love to do! And of course that Grail Bushboot! I saw a post of yours saying "everyone should have a swedged Bushboot! I finally got one thanks to Abe!

Thanks man, only different in recent times I guess. I have written a couple of in-depth threads on urban survival here on BF back in 2008 when I was documenting the gang presence and their activities here in this same city. Plus I have been doing urban night photography and playing with light for years. This Monday I will be displaying prints of some of that art at a local venue.

Great pics Brian!

Thank you Gus, glad you enjoyed the post!!

Thanks Bob, I agree. FF makes a few great EDC models, I love the Lonestar and Esquire as well. I really like the overall attitude of the Bushboot, and I love the way it handles, but it's in an overhand grip in the role of a "GFO" were it really shines for me. It that hold it is just extremely intuitive for me and I know exactly were the tip is at all times and it just moves like an extension of my own hand.

Great post Brian. The Bushboot is definitely one of my favorites.

Thank you Nathan :) Yes, the Bushboot is just one of those magical Fiddleback models for me personally. I think I have gone through about 6 to get the one I wanted and this one is a grail for me. It has become a very close companion that goes where I go pretty much always, even when I have others on me.

Thanks Orion! Glad you enjoyed it man! I am trying on the well front. I have been cigarette free for almost 7 weeks now with no slips or even urges to slip, ans so far I have lost almost 50 pounds in the last four or five months. I feel better now than I did at 30. The doctors seem confident things will go alright with the carcinoma so I find that encouraging and remain hopeful and positive there.

Thanks Todd, the politics here in the city get a bit screwy at times, they have some crazy rules and city ordinances. So I much prefer living outside the city proper, but the movement of the industrial area to the outskirts and the build up of the tourism industry has made it a much nicer...if more expensive, place to visit.

Very nice pics Brian. The colours are amazing.

Thank you Abe, glad you enjoyed the post :) I could see that for some people, but it's perfect as is for me. I love the Bushboot as an edc, but I love how well it is suited to the "Get The F_ck Off Me" role in close quarters in urban environments. I tend to travel light in the city so I like the discretion of the size of the Bushboot, and for close quarter self defense in elevators and the like I love how it fits in my hand.

Thanks man, it looks like I will be spending a lot more time in urbanized terrain for a while, so I will work on that :)

Brian, those are some great pics! Glad to see these.

Thanks Kris, glad you liked it man!

Thank you Douglas! Man that Osage one is sooooo sweet!! And yeah, everyone does need a swedged Bushboot, they are magical creatures and awesome companions :)

+1 on Abe's suggestion of a guardless variant!

Andy likes guardless and tends to make a guardless variant of everything over time, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one pop up :)

Totally agree with you regarding the Bushboot. Only suggested the variant coz I like the Bushboot so much and would be cool to have a variant better suited for food prep.

BTW we can tell you've lost a lot of weight. Full body shot please [emoji12]

Bloody spellcheck. Had to edit twice [emoji35]

I really like the bushboot since it's one of the few FBF forge knives with a negative angle -- less than 180 degrees from handle axis to blade axis.

Your evening/night shots are terrific Mist. Having a venue for your photographs is well deserved!

And thanks for posting your overhand grip, I was going to request one as I was not sure if you liked a sharp edge forward or backward grip. And also I am left handed.
The negative angle that the bush boot has not only is great in defensive slash strokes in close quarters , allowing the ability to punch rapidly also...but dare I say also devastating in offensive movements. Back when I was younger and training to be a "ninja" in Hawaii:cool::eek::D...strokes that straighten the arm using the strength of the triceps muscles, either in downward movements or across the opponents body, the dull edge glides over either clavicle to enter the large vessels near the heart, and in the instance of a feinted slash to the upper body and cutting to the midsection, the dull edge hits the lower rib on the left to direct the blade to the spleen. The bushboot is indeed very good for a lefty. That elevator would be a bloody mess. Hope I did not offend anyone. Luckily I am over 60 , in semiretirement and probably way out of shape to be caught in an elevator.:D

See that? That is what my sheaths should look like. All worn and jacked up and carried everywhere.

Except I NEVER want to see Brian's waistband again.

I need to bleach my eyes.

I just want to know why there wasn't more focus on this amazing Calzone?! What were the toppings? How perfect was it? Mellow Mushroom [emoji265] Calzones deserve their own thread. "Calzones and Fiddlebacks". [emoji39] Make it happen people!

That makes sense. Had I the money to spare for it I would likely own several variations of the Bushboot :)

Pretty sure no-one wants to see a full body pic of me lol, and being as I much prefer being behind a camera to being in front of one, there aren't many pictures of me in general. I may do a selfie after I drop two or three more pants sizes and get back to where I should be :)

I definitely love the negative blade angle, in various holds.

Thanks Steve. It is something I have been working on for some time now. I definitely prefer the sharp edge forward. I had the Bushboot with me the other day when I met with Alec, the proprietor of the shop, about how I was going to approach filling specific spaces. Some of the shots are displayed at 11x17, others will be 20 x 24 or so, and then others will be more like 30 x 48, and maybe a few larger. The larger ones are more expensive for me to have printed, so I have to work on those a little at the time. I am also working on new promotional photos for some of their advertising spots as well. So a lot going on there right now. I got to show a friend that flesh isn't the only thing a swedged blade is good for penetrating, it's helpful with bread and preventing smashing sandwiches also :)

Two thoughts come from this...if this sheath ever messes up, just send me a new one you won't want to know where all this one has been.... and if that little shot of my waist causes issues, you shold really be careful surfing the net, because there is MUCH more disturbing stuff out there :D
