Will the Positron be using the same style bearings as with the Southard - encased in a nylon washer?

The question is - will this be an upgrade to the internals of the Southard?

it surely looks like a great addition tho the Spyderco lineup.

Thanks for any info.

Maybe someone can tell me how the bearings are set up in the Domino.
I thought the question in my opening post would get a yes or no answer.

Thanks. Ray

The catalog describes "ball bearing washers" for the Positron, Domino, and Rubicon but for the Southard the catalog reads - "a special captive ball-bearing pivot system".

I'm just asking if those are describing the same thing or if the "ball bearing washers" are different than the nylon washers with imbedded steel balls that make up the "special captive ball-bearing pivot system" that is used in the Southard.

Thanks.

I would imagine it would share the same Bearing system that is used in the Domino and Southard, which is the simple encased nylon bearings w/ the steel liner to prevent wear on the titanium scales.

FWIW, here's a photo I grabbed from the web some time ago, showing a disassembled Domino. The item on the upper right edge of the photo appears to be ball bearings encased in some sort of a plastic race. Have no idea how this compares to the current Southard's or will compare to the Positron.

Thanks Deacon - I was not sure how the Domino was set up for bearings. This is just like the Southard. I was hoping the Positron would get an upgrade as I found this set up in the Southard a bit inconsistent. Some Southards "flip like a dream" or "like a rocket" others - like the one I had - not so dreamy.

Well, I'm still not Sal, but if you go to Google Images and enter Spyderco Southard one of the photos that comes up is a shot that was posted on a German knife forum of a disassembled Southard. To me, the bearing/race assembly looks the same as the one in that Domino photo I posted, but you can judge for yourself.

Yes - I agree, but my question was about the Positron. I've concluded (without any new info) that the Positron will operate on the same set up.

My Southard doesn't flip as well and fast as my Domino does. I seem to think that it's because the detention is stronger on the Domino, so it flies open more when the detention ball finally releases.
