Anchor hatchet?

I found this hatchet and I'm going to clean it up and maybe do some kind of custom design to the head (mirror polish it or etch a design maybe). I finally got the stamp to show and it looks like an anchor with "anchor" stamped on top of it and "grand" stamped on the bottom. There is a company name stamped in cursive in the middle but I can't read it too well. Looks like it had green paint on it at some point too. Any information on the date, material used, and history on the company would be great.

Thanks for the help,

Someone will be along shortly to tell you all about it I'm sure, but that is a plumb brand and a fairly old one at that. I'd take a wire wheel to it and lightly clean it up and put a little wax on it. Looks like the toe is fairly worn but it's a neat one, congrats

I'd definitely go with the wire wheel, and wouldn't try to polish it up 👍
If you want to polish and etch a hatchet why not get one from harbor freight, mine turned out to have some pretty good steel ( it only matters assuming this won't just be a wall hanger ). If you need to remove the handle to work on it then you can just get the cheaper 7$ model with the yellow plastic handle as the heads are the same.

Looks like this Plumb stamp:

Dose anyone have a general idea for a date? If this is a pretty old or rare hatchet I won't polish it too much but just clean the rust off. I'm not liking the etching idea anymore, polished finish seems more atractive.

I'm going to use it it just like to make things like this look "pretty" before I put them to use.

Also the fact that it's a plumb is keeping me from doing anything crazy to it. I have multiple plumb axes and hatchets and I love them all. So this hatchet is sticking with me a bit better now.

A similar "Anchor Brand" scout axe (hatchet) appears to be pictured in a 1915 advertisement.

An earlier ad from 1912 has an "Anchor Brand" scout axe, but without the notch.

An ad from 1926 shows the scout hatchet with a different stamp.

This could help narrow down the date. Someone from this forum might show up with a book showing all the different types of scout axes and the dates made.

It's a cool stamp but that hatchet is heavily worn, beyond the point of having much use as a work hatchet anymore. If you drop a perpendicular down from the toe you'll see it's worn down almost to the nail puller. It's lost at least an inch off the toe. Time for retirement.
