I need advice on finishing a Wa handle. I have done CA finishes on handles before but I did not want this one to look like it had a plastic coating on it. I dont think that would suit this type of wood. Any suggestions on what to finish it with to seal it yet keep a natural look?

Bog oak can be beautiful.
Just hand sand as high as you like. 2500 is beautiful, 12000 is stunning.
You can choose to fill the pores but don't have to.

I have seen it finished with a steel wire wheel in a dremel to give it a bit of a wenge like finnish but haven't done that myself

I sand to a high grit - 1000 or higher, and then buff on the buffer or by hand with a soft cloth. I don't wax or apply a finish bog oak at all. At most a little carnauba wax would be all it needs.

Yeah, just sand it till you like the look and feel. Ive done a few bog handles, and really like 1k grit with a buffed finish.

I like to finish Ancient Bog Oak like Walnut. I use Watco brand Danish oil. This will darken it up whether you are using natural or stabilized Bog Oak. I like to apply a liberal coat and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. Then I wipe away the excess with a soft cloth. Repeat until you are happy with how it looks. If you do a google image search for rusticated morta you can see what the tobacco pipe makers are doing with Bog Oak. It can look very cool wire brushed and textured.

Sand to 1000 grit and if you want to fill the pores, several coats of Tru Oil. Then, if there's too much gloss for your taste, buff it back with some 0000 steel wool and finally put on a coat of wax. This is my preferred finish with wood to keep a nice, warm satin.
