This is on the History channel and it's really cool. It's amazing the types of weapons they had. Chromium plated swords that are rust free and sharp after 2200 years , flamethowers, rockets, triple cross bow with a 1 mile range.

Crazy stuff. Watch it if you can

I watched that as well Ted, Excellent Show!!!! :D There have been some interesting finds in China about many varied subjects. One I read about many, many, years ago was about opening a very old, old, tomb and finding the person buried in a viscous red liquid and wearing an Aluminum Conchoed Belt!!!!!
The experts didn't have a clue as to how the aluminum was smelted and probably still don't. Aluminum takes a highly technological process to smelt!!!!!!!  :D

That chrome plated sword was something else ainnit!?!?!?! ;) :)

There are more things yet to be explained...perhaps someday we will understand some of it all. (Note to Danny here...yup)

I take it all with a grain of salt. China has been making all sorts of wild claims in recent years (including the circumnavigation of the globe with detailed inland features...which proved a hoax). I wouldn't be surprised to see them dig up a "2,500 year old Saturn V rocket" It seems to be part of an official campaign to rewrite Chinese history.

Chrome plated swords? Lets wait for the third party
test resuts.

The show was great! In fact, the whole "Barbarian's Week" is really well done. Saxons, Goths, Huns, Vikings- learning (and re-learning) a lot.

The Chinese show had some vague explanations- and showing viewers "the first gun" from 1330 was a little cheeky. I have the "first knife" laying around here somewhere. They did a good job with the metallurgic explanations, though.

the ancient chinese sword was made of an alloy not duplicated until recently, clever fellows these chinese ;) it's amazing how many ancient gold and chrome plated bronze swords can be purchased via ebay from china at next to no cost. they even have an ancient and rare damascus steel german sabre from ww2 going cheaply, i know it's an ancient german sword because it says ''Germany" in big letters on the bronze guard. :) shipping costs seem a bit high tho....guess it's the getting around the chinese law that prohibits the sale of real antiques to destinations outside the country.

a lot of them have been attributed to the ancient chinese grand master, Fo Geri and his granddaughter Fay Keri.

I'd give a bunch to know for sure what the content of the "viscous red liquid" was. I'm guessing henna in oil..............assuming the whole story is accurate. A mildly acidic goo would retard bacterial growth, but a strong base would just dissolve him into soap. An air tight seal would help too.

There was a discovery in China's Gobi desert of Caucasian mummies in red cloth (actually a tartan...a Scotsman???) covered by National Geographic a few months back....but no Goo there. :D

The story about the body in fluid reminds me of the lady they found in an ancient tomb roughly 2000 or so years old... and remarkably well preserved, given her age. In this case, she was suspended in a yellowish fluid that was analyzed and found to contain mercury.
