Here is the battle dress of an ancient Gorkha. This outfit supposedly belonged to and was worn in battle by Prithivi Narayan Shah, King of Gorkha, first King of Nepal, and organizer of the world's first Gorkha fighting force. The uniform looks as though it has been through some pretty tough times and if Prithivi took the shots as shown on his trousers it must have been in a few very painful encounters.

Notice the heavy duty gloves.

Bill, just gotta love that tulwar and shield.
Hmm, I still want one. Maybe another shield too.

It's the 'knife bug' again.

Uncle Bill, I certainly admire the gentleman's fashion ensemble -- complete with matching shield, sword, and headgear -- but what was the body portion made of -- leather -- chain mail? Inquiring minds want to know.

In addition to leather, I'd say light chain mail, particularly the helmet.

Will, I'd say maybe three. Not many people know that India, Nepal, Mongolia and that area carried more than swords, knives, and bow and arrows. They also had maces and shields. Also remember you've got people on horseback and elephants. Ever see Elephant armor?

BTW, next to Filipino weaponry, I drool over Indian arms.

I have seen elephant armour only in pictures. Those are made from bamboo. It looked as if a house was built around the elephant. I was a bit surprised by that ancient weapons could seriously hurt an elephant in battle. Hunting is a different story.
