And here's why you don't get a choice of wood.

Email I got from BirGorkha this evening:

Dear Bena,
Namaste

I could not figure it out which one do you call " PURPLE HEART WOOD " ? Is the one that was
in the last box i picked up recently or the one which you have sent after that..Please kindly
let me know.

It was in the first box, only one piece, purple as a fat man choking.

...
Could there be a problem in the translation of "purple"? I see why you haven't been up to too many custom pieces.

Might be easier to just ask for a khuk without a handle or the cheapest wooden handle possible, and then have the customer re-handle the blade.

Can a person order just a finished and tempered blade without anything else?

LOL...unless you're dealing with customers, you've got to see the humor in it!

Hi Bill,
If you send this photo to them perhaps that would help?

Or say.....

Change of plans we - want to use "Big Fat Man About Two Seconds Away from Dying due to Choking Hue Wood"

:D

Maybe UB can always write "PURPLE HEART" with marker pen on the wood itself before sending it to Nepal.

When I'm at work and dealing with cretins that can't follow simple spoken instructions I seethe. I come home, load up the cantina and read away.

Special Order story

Thanks UB

I sent over three or four pix. They'll end up substituting Osage Orange for purple heart. After the fact, I realize I should have labeled each piece of wood sent. I always was a day late and dollar short.

Just one of those bugs to work out.

Best thing, I think, would be to take a pic of what comes back and then tell them what it is.

If you think the wood pic (that spiral posted) would be ok, there are plenty of those online. Maybe we can make an assemblage of wood types. But, of course, you would have to remember what all was sent.

Johnny-next-time.

Personally....I kinda like the "suprise factor"....:D

I think some of them were for the "Kami-Free-For-All" UB turned loose the other day. Others, I think, were just for fun - to spice things up in general.

I've been bugging Bill about it for a long time (and I'm sure many others have as well). He's been reticent about doing it - too much risk. However, after I snuck some exotic wood to Pala for the Kerambit project a lil' while back....the response was overwhelming. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Only Bill knows....but that's my one-dimensional take on it. ;)

:p

You can ask.
This lil' tidbit from Bill makes me crack up every time I read it....:D

Well thanks for getting the ball rolling on it. I think it's a great idea.
