The matter is that here in Europe, news come later, so I had to wait for a while 'till I had my no.391 Gunting. But now.. what a sensation to have in the hand, to cut with it, to even punch my brother's arm with it...(he always tease me 'cause he's younger than me but taller...). I just would like to point, and eventually discuss with you Spyders, the following points:
PROS
Double liner construction: this was really missing from the Spyderco line, and I would be very happy to see it applied on other models, as the military, a G10 Native, nad even the Starmate.
Blade thickness and shape:wonderful! but I would like also have a Tanto...
Compression lock: never seen such a strength!
Handle: I really think you can do a lot of damages only with the handle, not even opening the blade.
CONS
Compression lock: not so quick in the closing operation...
Spoon clip: from my point of view is really too low, and shows too much the kinfe. It should have been "tip up", using the "pincher" as the "wave" on Emerson's Commander.

..So, let me have some replies...

Para, give that compression lock some time and practice!!! I found it a bit tough at first, but now I can open and close the gunting rather quckly without ever breaking my grip...

Thanks, Guntaholic I'll apply your advise, but I would really read more from you: your name tells it all, you should love so much this Spyd that I think you know every trick related to it( opening, closing, proper handling, etc.), please share some of your knowledge with me !

Para, get the tapes buddy!!! They are very detailed... Practice makes perfect. To this point I am entirely self taught... I have no martial arts background but I love to play... I am planning on attending a seminar or too as soon as Bram can set one up in my area..., Buy a drone if you can and explore various holds and strikes with it...

Man, do NOT go practicing the strokes, and especially the kinetic openings, with a live blade unless you like pain and like hospitals. Do also obtain the tape, "Spyderco Introduces the Gunting by Bram Frank". It shows all of the fancy moves possible so that you can see that they are possible, but it does not teach them. What it does teach are all of the things that you should NOT do with a Gunting. Pay attention to these and you will be a lot happier camper. Almost all of the accidents of which I have read in these forums are described in the tape and you are warned how to avoid them.
