Somebody stop me. I seem to be having an out of body experience. Don't believe me? Well, just ask Gus K.

I mean, the Blade Show started out normally enough. Drinking, smoking, buying a great little Simonich "Pikuni" Neck Knife in the bar from my buddy Rob....

...Then all hell breaks loose. C'mon, you guys know me, a dedicated neck knife and tactical knife sorta guy...

Well look, look what they did to me:

The first knife: Persian Fighter by Zaza Revishvili. Damascus blade (1095/a203e) by Master Smith Keith Kilby. Handle and scabbard in silver filigree and garnets.

The second knife: Tanto by Flavio Ikoma. Daryl Meier (1095/15n20) damascus blade; ebony and silver fittings; mosaic pin; Brazilian pine (Riga) saya.

I dunno, but I'm startin' to get a little bit nervous.....Things just don't feel the same as they were just a short while ago!

Nice going, Blues!

Zaza's work is stunning. There's not much more to say that the work doesn't say for itself. Owing to his connections for Siberian ivory, he's able to trade for steel, and get awesome value. Zaza is a bunch of fun, too! Congrats.

I fondled that very piece of Brazilian cutlery. If they hadn't been so busy with other customers, I doubt it would have been left for you (Of course, that would have made my Hossom stop financially impossible...). Again, congrats.

...and I went and bought one of Sean Perkins' rough finished little gems ($35 with sheath? Yeah. Like I'm gonna walk away empty handed.). Hmmm. I think you and I may have crossed a little in the transmutation device at the hotel!

Tell you what - How about you enjoy your new taste for the "frillier" side, I'll hang some more steel from my neck, and somewhere in the middle, I'm sure we can find a common ground to throw a boatload of money at!

PS - Sorry we didn't meet up, although without realizing it, we probably spent a good deal of time waiting for each other to put something down so we could get our turn. Next year!

Brian,

In point of fact you were one of the guys I was really hoping to run into and get some time to b.s. with. Sorry it didn't work out. I've always liked your taste in knives, and glad we have a little common ground.

I had looked at the tanto earlier in the day and walked away thinking I wanted to cover more of the show before deciding. I was truly surprised it was still there a couple of hours later when I returned.

Regarding Zaza's piece....The knife I most admired was that gorgeous dagger on his table which was way out of my league financially. When I found the one I ended up buying, it was in the secondary market and quite reasonable (all things being equal). I had Zaza and Keith Kilby look it over and give it their seal of approval and Gus K. held my hand and told me I did real well. Made the process much easier for me.

Well, our meeting at the show is something to look forward to next year. We'll hook up then. I think one of the pieces that will be special for me then just may have Sava Damlovac's name on it. What a nice gentleman and talented maker.
I got to spend some quality time with him at the show and am looking forward to owning a knife made by him. Credit Gus again with introducing me to Sava.

Still a bit dizzy from the sudden altitude...

Blues,
You did well! Thanks for letting me check out the Zsa Zsa knife in person. It looks wild and that handle provides GREAT grip!
I just wonder how the other LEO's at your Dept. will react to that knife hanging around your neck when your on duty

Dunno, Neil.

Whaddya think, fashion conscious, neck knife wearin' feds running around comparing the knife du jour instead of what caliber they're packing. LOL!!!

Nah. I'll wear yours and Rob's and put the Zaza in a safe place.

Your knife from Zaza looks great. He does one-of-kind filigree that just blows me away. He had a fixed blade under his table that has connie persson (sp?) stainless damascus with a cobra head pattern (open hood) and a great persian design.

Dogman,

Connie Persson's damascus is some of the best I've ever seen.

I'd never have believed that I'd actually have gone for something like this if someone had suggested it would happen. But, as you know, when it grabs you, it grabs hard.

Had I the money to burn, that dagger on Zaza's table would have been gone.

Thanks for the nice comments. Makes me feel better about my state of mind.

You did real well, Blues, but I'm personally very jealous of the neck knife you got from Rob, That is one neat little knife! Next time I see him at a show, I'm gonna make sure I see him in the bar !!

Brian,

Check with Les Robertson. He had at least one over the weekend, don't know if he sold it or not.

I think his price would be the same or very close to Rob's.

Actually, its good to see another collector expand his collection.

I made a few purchases myself, from Micheal Connor and Murray Carter.

Take Care, Matt.

Hey Matt!

After talking to you at the show, I ended up talking to both Connor and Carter. Actually, Connor's brother.

Carter is going to get in touch with me soon and we are going to try to design something for him to make me. Should be fun.

Good meeting you at the show. Keep up the great work on your knives. I'll be needing one.

Micheal Connor is my favorite maker, he is a "makers maker". What i mean is if you ask most of the older Master Smiths who's there favorite maker, you will here his name alot.

I bought the hunter he had, and im not a big hunter fan. Me, Dr. Lathe, and Kevin Pensinger stayed up for a while (about 2:15 am) looking at that knife. Its so clean and comfortable, yet so simple.

Murray Carter is a heck of a guy. I will be getting a full set of kitchen knives from him next show.

Matt.
