well, after buying a couple of benchmades (710 and 745 mini dejavoo), i've found that i've now got the knife bug. so, i thought i'd look into this sebenza, mnandi craze. i'm starting to see why they are the talk of the forum.

just beginning my CR investigation and i'm looking into the small sebenza and the mnandi. help me cut to the chase. tell me...

are both the mnandi and sebenza "one hand openers"? i can handle my benchmades one hand....but the mnandi thing talks about a thumb nail slot. isn't that just like an old Case folding knife where you use two hands.

what ARE the differences between the mnandi and small sebenza? i'll use it for EDC and I do have a rather large hand. for reference purposes, i kinda liked the size of my old BM mini-grip....the mini dejavoo is maybe even a little better size....the 710 is bigger than i really need to fit my hand. help~~!!!~~

Take a look at this sticky:

The mnandi is compatible to be a one hand opener. Apparently the nail slot is deep enough. If you think the 710 is too big then you probably don't want a large sebenza. They are similar overall size. The small sebenza is just about right for most people's EDC and is more similar to the size of a mini griptillian. All you have to decide after that is if you want a classic or a regular and that is a matter of pure preference.

always classic, always LARGE!

dual thumblugs are a must

welcome to the addiction

sorry for the stupid question...but, what is the purpose of the lanyard? wouldn't most people clip the knife to the pocket>?<

Use over water, snow was the original purpose. You can undo the Reeve knot and use the paracord to tie a loop around your wrist. Take your knife fishing and you'll understand why! Stuff can get slick when wet or cold. These days, a lot of folks use the lanyard hole to put a fob for extra grip or ease of withdrawal from pocket.

I'd say that the lanyard is just for a quicker draw..

I've owned or posessed almost every form of CRK. I was introduced to CRK through purchasing a Sm. Seb... I really thought the large was toooo large at the time, plus the small is the same thing, but smaller and $50 cheaper, right??

after that, I traded for a Lg Classic, which I was not particularly fond of.. a few more passed through my hands, including a ziricote mnandi... a REALLY fine knife (ha ha). The Mnandi is one of the finest pieces you'll see. I think it is TRULY a bargain for waht it is vs. what else is available in its class. Yup...it's easy to open one handed.

I began to carry a Microtech LCC, which got me to appreciate a large-ish knife. The next Large Reg. Seb I found in my hand just felt perfect. It is perfect.

I do have big hands... and I think the Sebenza's design works better with the large... The small's are a to-scale mini version of their bros... a compromise. I think the Large is what the seb was designed to be...GREAT! The small was not even designed... It's just built... built well, but built to be sold.

I'd say that if you HAVE to have it small, go with the Mnandi... They are fantastic... Of course, I recommend a Large Reg Seb over ALL, but I had to stumble upon it, so I cant think I'll convince you with a post!

I have large hands and have no problem at all with the small. In fact, it is my favorite knife. I haven't carried my large for a long time because I like the small so much.

Easy open with one hand--quality is amazing. Be careful, they ARE addictive.

i'm still not sure I get this lanyard thing. guess it makes sense if you tie it to a belt loop or something so it doesn't slip out of your hand and into the snow or water....when your hands are slippery. beyond that, i'm still not getting it. quicker draw? use the lanyard to grab onto when pulling it out of your pocket? hmmmmmm.

also, i'm trying to decide between lg. and sm. sebenza. i agree with earlier post that the sm. seb is almost identical in size to the mini-grip...except the sm. seb is just a tad heavier. seems my new 710 is a might big...but i like the way it positions in my right hand pocket (the clip position & tip up). I can get the 710 out and flicked open VERY fast. the 745 (mini-dejavoo) is about right (but seems thick and more bulk) except i'm not sure i like the placement of the clip as it takes me longer to flick open...seems upside down and has to be turned in my hand. hmmm.

why are dual thumb studs a must on the sebenza? will it come out of my right hand pocket in the perfect position to flick open...or will it be upside down?

now.....classic or regular?? what's the difference? micarta a good first choice for grippyness/utilitarian???
