I thought it was silly to open a hole-operated blade with your thumb IN the hole, but do people actually do this normally with a completely round one? I didn't understand why a complaint would be that you couldn't do that with the BM trademark-dodging oval.

I changed my post to a question because now I think I'm the crazy one :D

Ya mean like use the hole like a thumbstud with the thumb flat?...I didn't warm up to spydercos till i bought a chinook II. Now i prefer the thumbhole over the studs for that very reason. I stick my thumb (bent at the first knuckle) in the hole and it seems my thumb flows in a more natural arc. It's prolly cause my hand is choked up more on the handle at the start to hit the hole. Whatever the reason, it feels more secure with no halfway adjustments that i have to do with the studs sometimes. I'm talkin opening with no wrist flick. Was that the question? :)

Are you talking about using the pad of the thumb (the part directly opposite the nail) to stick into the hole rather than actually sticking the tip of the thumb in... basically, not doing it the way in the picture? I use the pad method and assumed everyone did, as it seems much more natural. I guess I was wrong though.

Yes! I use the pad method too, but in the link the reviewer complains that the nail method doesn't work, which isn't really a viable complaint, or so I thought, but I posted to see if maybe I was wrong.

I've always used the pad of my thumb method. It never occured to me to stick the tip of my thumb in the hole.

I just tried it... no sir, I didn't like it. Didn't like it one bit.

Don't know if this is different for oval hole, but did a few experiments on round one.
Putting nail into the hole -- no good. Nearly cut my finger.:(
