...And It Quietly Came

Ladies and Gentlemen, I felt the prayers late last night. It was good to know we were pulling together, wanting the best for our friends.

The blade came in the morning. Timing is everything.

Normally when a blade arrives from HI it's introduced by a thread called, Zippidy-Doo-Dah, Zippidy-Day. But here I am thinking of Pappy and all of us in trouble.

Surprisingly, the blade fits. Yes, it is beautiful, but all functional. There is no flash or hurrah here. Only the small tassle adorning the tool holder from the sheath could be called ornamental, and I bet that's because I don't know how to use it. This Hanuman is what I admire in the world. It's simple, functional, and elegant. It does what it says it does. And when you do that, people call you beautiful, elect you Judge, or want to borrow money. There aren't any wasted lines or words in this Khukuri. The tweezers work. The blade felt light and I was a taken back when the scale said 29 oz. I'll have that checked; it feels lighter. But I bet I'm wrong, and there's 29 ounces, because Kumar made the balance that way.

The fullers are even and clean. The edge is almost convex, and the knife 18 7/8ths inch long. The wooden handle is not too fat,(as I'd slightly feared) and the carved figure on the end swells and holds the hand the way a regular Khuk does. So you see, even the ego behind the decoration is accepted through usefulness.

This khukuri is exactly right, in every detail, and as far as I go in my lifetime towards luxury. It says munk. It says Pappy. I'm telling you, this blade does what it says it will. I bet it'll lop the head off a snake. I'm going to use it, and it arrived after we asked God's help for all of us in need.

A definite keeper. I actually prefer the carving motif on the Garud AK, but the Hanuman looks far more functional/comfortable. Now you just need to find some snakes to chop so you can report on the blade performance:D

That's weird munk...mine says "Nasty" (okay, sometimes it says "I want a banana - you got one?").:p

It *is* an awesome knife...gonna be hard to top! (Of course, I did immediately order that 18th Century the other day)
:D

BTW Josh, I did consider getting the Garud, but the idea of gripping those claws put me off of it!

Hey, you're just kidding-but don't try 'topping'. That's not what these blades are about.

Hanuman is another great Khuk. Anyhow I always prefer the standard handle. It is my personal taste. So .. mine .. was rehandled with a standard Khukuri handle without a buttcap by Terry about 2 years ago. If I am not mistaken .. Terry told me that the handle fixed to my Hanuman is a 18th Century Handle model.

The design of Hanuman blade is more or less the same with Berk Special which is a dui-chirra. The different is that Hanuman has a narrower and more sturdy blade than Berk Special. I guess Hanuman and Berk Special must came from the same period of time and locality.

Thanks for that, Mohd.

I think this blade just acted like it was always there- on the desk or in my house, from the moment it walked in.

The minute you have them in close to you for the first time. Kind of that spirit thing. And they grow on you as time goes by.:)

That's right, Pappy, that's how it feels. It's always been mine. It's a cornball idea but true.

It's a classy chopper... I'd spend the time to "TruOil" it to perfection after some VERY fine sanding, and cleaning. Enjoy it!
