Ladies and Gentlemen, I felt the prayers late last night. It was good to know we were pulling together, wanting the best for our friends.
The blade came in the morning. Timing is everything.
Normally when a blade arrives from HI it's introduced by a thread called, Zippidy-Doo-Dah, Zippidy-Day. But here I am thinking of Pappy and all of us in trouble.
Surprisingly, the blade fits. Yes, it is beautiful, but all functional. There is no flash or hurrah here. Only the small tassle adorning the tool holder from the sheath could be called ornamental, and I bet that's because I don't know how to use it. This Hanuman is what I admire in the world. It's simple, functional, and elegant. It does what it says it does. And when you do that, people call you beautiful, elect you Judge, or want to borrow money. There aren't any wasted lines or words in this Khukuri. The tweezers work. The blade felt light and I was a taken back when the scale said 29 oz. I'll have that checked; it feels lighter. But I bet I'm wrong, and there's 29 ounces, because Kumar made the balance that way.
The fullers are even and clean. The edge is almost convex, and the knife 18 7/8ths inch long. The wooden handle is not too fat,(as I'd slightly feared) and the carved figure on the end swells and holds the hand the way a regular Khuk does. So you see, even the ego behind the decoration is accepted through usefulness.
This khukuri is exactly right, in every detail, and as far as I go in my lifetime towards luxury. It says munk. It says Pappy. I'm telling you, this blade does what it says it will. I bet it'll lop the head off a snake. I'm going to use it, and it arrived after we asked God's help for all of us in need.
