...what?

Alright. I came to BF for a "knife upgrade". It has so far accumulated into one grey Matriarch, a G-10 Civilian, a Gunting, a Commander (yes, I have a supercommander on preorder) and a L-UDT (black offcourse). All of them get high grades on the "scale of coolness".

Then I stumbled upon this gadget forum when I had spent (too much) money on knives and I thought:

"Well, no problem. I don´t need any of the stuff they mentioned over here. Who could possibly need all these things, not me. No danger to read this forum. No chance that I will spend any money because of it".

After just a couple of weeks it started...

Oooh, those glowrings looks cool. $10 is a nice price for it. It DOES help you find the keys in the dark. I´ll buy one for myself and one for my girlfriend and thats it... yeah sure. I started to read about all the nice watches out there and the cool wallets and... too late. I´m hooked.

I received a nice Waterborne nylon strap for my old Aqualand just in time for X-mas (a 7.0 on the "coolness scale").

On X-mas day I got one of those very good looking rayskin wallets from my girlfriend (a 8.7 on the "coolness scale").

I´ve got one of those combat-ready-to-kill-some-terrorists AOG nylon belts on order, you know the one that you can use as an emergency rappelling harness (probably a 9.0 on the "coolness scale").

What´s next?

Maybe a Centurion from Surefire? Or maybe spend some more time over at the watchforums and buy an Omega, or a Sinn, why not a Panerai? Very nice looking watches. Not in my budget - yet...

Why did I make this post? A cry for help finding the next gadget or a cry for help getting rid of the gadget-factor in my life. Don´t know. Feel free to help me either way. Links are appreciated. :)

BTW I also have a BM42 - and if someone remembers that post I made over at the Balisong forum about me being able to do the finger-twirl-thingie (without cutting myself) before X-mas - I did it :D BTW it gets a 9.2 on the "coolness scale".

1) Surefire flashlights. 10X recahrgeable, E2, and my favorite, the Millenium M6.
2) Something from the JSP blade rigger line. The less you understand what it does, the better.
3) A PAL light, a photon III microlight, and a traser teknoloite.
4) A Brunton Helios lighter
5) too many expensive watches.
6) GPS gear
7) A great set of bolt cutters (how about the BlackHawk BoltMaster here
8) Clever hydration backs...
9) Almost everything made by www.newsungear.com and Blackhawk
10) A fully stocked "bug out bag" is a MUST for gearheads
11) Great GPS and PDA. Not just good, GREAT
12) Optics -- cool small binoculars, large ones, cool sunglasses (many past postings by many)
13) Great guns...

Just buy one of everything in a current "Sharper Image" Catalog (IF they are even still around...), and you should be set for awhile.:D.

Gargoyles sun glasses.
Flashlights...you can't have too many.
Leatherman multi-tool.
At least three watches.
Pens, Cross and Fisher.
Cell phone.
FRS radio.
Anything else mentioned above.

Several different means of carrying all of it....

Esav actually hit on it---you want cool, go to Tripleaught's pages. Just a world of excellent gear that fits right into the BFer's profile:)

Shoot, the stuff I have on backorder from tripleaught would be a pretty fair addition to anybody's gadget list... but if you don;t have a surefire light or two then start there.

Yeah, get some flashlights, Surefires ( E2e, M3, M2) and LED's (INOVA 5X, Arc LS)

No gadget guys is really complete until you get some quality night vision gear!

GPS are fun, gadgets for the BOB are great too.

How about an electric scooter (Currie Flyer SE)? I got one for Christmas and it's a blast! Mine goes for about 20 miles at 17mph (upgraded batteries).

Of course another knife is always a good thing to get while deciding on another gadget to buy :D

I have wanted a review of the TAD shell... worth the money?? Did you get one of the "built in" knives? That looks cool. So, let us have the details!

Ohh.. I just ordered the new D-Link Roq-It 10GB USB MP3 jukebox for $213 (plus there's a $30 rebate expiring 12/31/01). It comes with 10GB of storage on a 2.5" EIDE hard drive. Not only can you use it for an MP3 player, you can also use it as a portable hard drive. :D The best part is the hard drive is easily accessible allowing you to purchase additional/larger 2.5" drives to use with it.

Too cool duuuuude. :)

Check it out: http://www.dlink.com/products/multimedia/dmphd610/

More gadgets!

I've got a Marathon SAR on the way :D and I seem to have misplaced my surefire E1 :( sooo...

Full review coming soon. I have not had alot of time to wear it yet. I am pretty impressed with the way it looks, but im not ready to say how it performs yet. Ill let you know ASAP.

I've been looking at that shell, too. My one misgiving is that it doesn't seem to have a hood, which is important to me during the rainy season. I've been looking at snowboarder-type shells. Some of them have nearly as many pockets as the TAD shell, and they not only have hoods, but you can also buy a zip-in fleece for colder days.

All that means that the biggest advantage of the TAD shell is the styling, which is way cooler and more secret-agentish, rather than snowboarding-deliquentish. The other advantage of the snowboarding-type shells is that they are on huge sales right now -- I've seen $250 shells going for $125-$150, whereas TAD's shell never seems to go on sale.

Still, between all the pockets and the cool styling, I'm looking at the TAD shell. If only it had a hood, that would be the clincher.

the Al Mar Tac Jac:

It's got the hood and is what I have worn for the last 5 years. It's made very well and has lots of pockets in-side and out(way more then the TAD shell) I like the TAD shell for the looks. I wear the Al Mar because of the carring capasity.

I'd have gone for the TAD shell in a second if it had a stowable hood. A zip-in liner would have made it even better. Ended up with a Columbia TriForm shell and ballistic sweater liner. Cost a bit more, but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Here's my short list of importance:

1. Surefire M4--My mouth's drooling for one of these babys
2. Palm Pilot--Coolness factor
3. Pre-Ban Mags for my Glock--because the more firepower the better

The long ways off List:

1. Trijicon ACOG
2. Wilson Combat Border Patrol Shotgun

Thanks!

Eric

While you are at TAD, pick up a Titanium Spork for a measley 10 bux. You'll be the coolest guy at Kentucky Fried Chicken then, Colinz.

Make short work of your side order of cole slaw with that baby.

Mmm, nice stuff.

I´ll go through the stuff mentioned in no particular order.

I really liked the knife inside the rayskin checkbook. I´ll better start saving for it. Mike Snody makes so many good looking knives that it´s hard to make a choice (whish he would open his order book for individual customers again). An overlord set would also be nice.

I do however think that a Surefire Centurion is a higher priority. The Arc LED light was cool and I think it would fit neatly on my keychain together with my Glowring.

Small gadgets that you can carry around all the time rules...

The Brunton Helios lighter looks cool. I´m not sure, maybe I´ll get one of those later (I don´t even smoke :) ).

Sunglasses are always nice. I have one from RayBan and another from Oakley. Still looking for fancy Gucci glasses with "golden" lionheads on the sides. No I don´t want to look like a pimp but rather carry them for that cool Côte d´Azur look.

"Bug out bag"? Ah, if you mean a survival type of bag with rugged clothes, flashlight, knives and stuff - already have one packed.

Palmpilots, yep, have been on my whishlist for a while. Too expensive over here. But the prices are going down all the time so who knows.

Pens, already got a couple of Cross for my Filofax (the all-steel is my favourite). I would like a Fisher astrounaut pen. Flashlights are however cooler (right now).

Mp3 player, nah, already got a Sony MD player. If you are thinking of getting one don´t hesitate. They are great. Just be sure to buy one with recording capability.

Guns and gunstuff, :( no go. I love shooting guns and I´ve been doing it all my life but the laws over here demands that you have to be an active member (more like being a working slave and cleaning up for the older members) in a shooting club for a year to get a .22. It takes maybe another 6-12 months until you can buy a gun that really does some damage downrange. Sucks. Recently I quit our equivalent to your National Guard and had to give back my full auto HK91 (serious fire power :D ). Didn´t have the time because of work and university studies. Maybe I´ll get a hunting license later next year. It gives automatically license for rifles and shotguns.

Titanium spork :) alright, I might love gadgets but if I ever get one of those I know that I´ve lost my senses. ;)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Some of the stuff I have put up on my "to-buy" list.

Happy New Year everyone.

/Colinz
