...or in other words, a thread NOT about the color of scales or coatings, name changes, logos, etc....

Yesterday I picked up the February issue of S.W.A.T. magazine. To be honest, I never was a SWAT magazine fan due to a knee-jerk and ignorant response to my area's Gun and Outdoorsman Shows' evolution to Camo and Ammo Show, as well as the proliferation of the Mall Ninjers. After reading some very good reviews of SWAT on this board, I decided to give it a go.

And this month's edition had a bunch of articles that were very interesting to me. Among these was "Survival Pros' Everyday Carry Gear", which featured interviews with 3 experts in survival/tracking, one of which was our own Mike Perrin. This article helped reinforce the lessons taught to me over 2 decades ago that the most important piece of survival kit is the one between your ears. It also made me feel less inadequate for not EDCing the amount of survival gear that some do. A good read.

Also in this issue is an article by Jeff entitled "White Powdered War" which I found very interesting and informative. It was about some of the international efforts to curtail drug cartel operations in Colombia. I was however surprised that SWAT published photo's of some of the Colombian Operator's faces. While the photos were all cleared for publication, judging from a close friend's personal experiences, Colombian drug suppliers/dealers are extremely violent and vindictive. Also a very good read. I can't wait to read Part 2.

I also read in the March issue of Knives Illustrated that Ethan Becker invented the CMI Figure 8 Descender. I've had one for over 25 years, and never knew this.

While I work in NYC, I try to make the most of my lunch time...:)

I did not know that about the CMI Figure 8 either. I'm sitting in my office, looking off to my right and staring right at one. Has not been used in 14 years, but, none the less, I still have it.

Enjoy your lunch.

I don't have the article but I also find it cool that the figure 8 was invented by Mr. Becker.

It is with pleasure that I announce that Ethan Becker of Becker Knife & Tool (BK & T) has joined KA-BAR Knives. BK & T was founded in 1986 by Ethan Becker, an avid outdoorsman of 45 years. Ethan spent 25 years searching for an ideal “big knife” and finally combined his two favorites, the Kukri and a WWII Survival “Bolo,” to make the Machax. Becker is the former president of the mountain climbing equipment company Colorado Mountain Industries (CMI) where he developed the CMI Figure 8 Descender and Hexachoks. His innovative concepts began the development of CMI’s 5000 Ascender, Rescue Pulley, the CMI cup, and Eagle Industries’ Becker Patrol Pack.
