Alright, knock it off, this is starting to get old already!

TS Jeanne, is expected to develop into a hurricane and will probably slam into .... yup Florida, during the weekend. (not to be confused with Charley, Frances, and Ivan which have visited with us over the last several weeks)

They are not sure where it is headed but it sound like they expect a sharp turn to the west in a few days.

GLOBAL GUIDANCE IS A LITTLE MORE CONSISTENT IN SHOWING
THAT THE REMNANTS OF IVAN WILL BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE SOUTHEAST
U.S. COAST TO DEFLECT JEANNE'S TRACK TO THE RIGHT IN 2-3 DAYS.
HOWEVER...BUILDING HEIGHTS OVER THE NORTHEAST U.S. IN ABOUT 5 DAYS
ARE EXPECTE TO PREVENT JEANNE FROM RECURVING OUT TO SEA.

If this keeps up I may actually be looking forward to the annual migration of snowbirds which usually signals the end of the hurricane season.

Projected path has me targeted.

I have 3 bros and 1 sis in Mobile. Talked to sis about 1900 hrs Weds night. She was staying...

I could be completely wrong (as usual), but i think i heard somewhere that the "experts" have a theory that because of the climate shift the Florida/Gulf area has just had what they call a "lucky streak" for the last several decades. They say gulf dwellers should do their best to get used to it this time of year from now on because they can't "project" how long this pattern will last. Then the usual suspects are brough in: Global warming, green house gases, ocean dumpage, the Iraq war, John Kerry's purple hearts, an epic clash between ninjas and pirates at an Ohio 7/11, and John Ritter's death a year ago seem to have all contributed to Florida getting wiped off the face of the country by a series of big storms. Media sensationalism i suppose, but what do i know.

Jake

edit to add: In all seriousness, i really do wish you all along the gulf and in FL the best. Didn't Jeb Bush say something about "the price of living in paradise" I have a couch to crash on in Indiana if anyone needs it.

I have never seen a tropical strom form off the coast of
Georgia /South Carolina and this year there were two.

Also the jet stream has retreated a lot further north than I remember.
whatever the cause, it does seem to be more heat in tha atmosphere.

I not sure about the mechanism but some scientist are predecting that the
gulf stream could shut down at a certain point as a result of the added heat.
Make me wonder if that is lurking in the future.... Kinda ironic, too much heat causes an Ice age..... truely strange idea.

sheesh......no break for floridians.....

Here's a pic of my workshop. Note grinder on right edge of bench. 4 ft of water did it... right up to top of stairs. These storms don't play. Reports of looters- curfew re-established in my county. Khuk(s) & .45 at hand. Plenty of MRE's.

The real pain will come long after the storm, and it will be administered by our insurance companies, our bankers and underwriters, and the real estate market.

I'll take a few tornado gambles here in the midwest over that stuff any day. Most of the Floridians I know have lost much in the way of shelter and interior comforts. the coasts are toast. Best to y'all, good luch in the latest installment of "When nature attacks".

You NEVER make out from the insurance. My exp. with H. Andrew, me & my cousin did the painting & electrical work as what SF paid didn't cut it. This time we'll be homeless in a few weeks. Mold eating up walls. Hope to have trailer in yard, stuff in storage while they tear house down.... My fault if Khuks rust, betting I won't let that happen. Maybe this forum and the thoughts of what I used to have is keeping me temporarily sane. Still checking UB's BB's but getting new ones... well, just window shopping.

A damned shame AA and other Floridians!
Barb was telling me this morning that my old town of Melbourne got hit pretty hard.:(
I know I wouldn't recognize Melbourne these days but it was a really pretty town when we lived there in 1947-'48; some of my best childhood memories are from there and Palm Bay, a few miles south.

The one hurricane we set through at Jacksonville wasn't all that bad there and I was too young to appreciate the severity of the storm in other areas if there was much.
The media wasn't nearly as well organized or as widespread as it is today way back then.
However I was amazed and it scared me to see the little bit of damage to the beach areas around J'ville. It was sure bad enough and probably worse than I realized at the time too.:(
