The Ak-47

Yuppers the good ol' Ak is the topic of discussion tonite...

Home built ones that is...

The afternoon as the leather was drying, I decided to pop off a few rounds to give my homebuilt Romy Ak it's final test firing...

specs
Romy ak kit purchased from DPH arms (Highly recommended!)...$99.00

Reciever template and blank bought from someone...$20.00

922r kit bought from DPH arms...$60.00

4 E. German mags from Cheaper than dirt..$50.00

Allen head screws and assorted stuff...$30.00

Tools...already had those!!

Reciever bending jig..made it myself and used my 400ton Wysong press to bend it..

Results of my labors

600 rounds with 2 failures...

1 @ round 78..failure to exject...recleaned extractor and ejector

1 @ round 589...Double feed...New mag that has been marked and set aside for cleaning and possible respringing

My thoughts...

Accuracy is typical AK...out to 100yards it hits where ya point it, and firing offhand I can keep most of the rounds in the target..

I am in the process of getting a couple of pics taken, but it looks just like all the other Romy AK's...only difference is, I left the reciever in the white and I kept the front hand rest thingy as is..yea I like it..

My next project is gonna be a Yugo folder...

Anyone else done this??

Man! You did that? Went the parts kit AK? Congrats.

Heard it's not $ worth it but a great learning experience.

That underfolder AK stock is part of the reciever... Yugo? Polish? the underfolder is a nice way to go. Wanted the Arsenal one but couldn't justify the $$$

Nice work. Pix?

DPH Arms. Link?

<Thanks, AT>

Most successful design of last century and can be built in a garage.
By God, those Commies were terrible at finance and great at weapons.

Ad Astra,
The $$$ isnt that bad unless you gotta buy all of the tools to build it...That jacks the price up alot..

IOW if you are only planning on building one kit then it doesnt make sense to spend that kinda cash when you can buy one for around $350.00

Planning on going with a Yugo underfolder...I have 3 Romy kit's but only 1 Yugo kit to play with and I really like the folder's...

Munk...Couldnt agree more

Andrew...Yuppers that is the guy...very easy to do business with

Huugh...Good links..thanks!!

Ak's are fun ammo burners, close combat weapons.
I had a Romanian for a while, gifted it to a dear frind last year for his birthday.
You shoulda seen the look on his face ! hehehehe I loved it!

Hi LF:

So you can do more than great leather work, eh?

I've read about the AK kits, but don't think I would attempt such an involved project with a rifle. Congrats on completeing such a challenge. Only two misfires. That's nothing. Good job!

Mine isnt nearly as inaccurate as I thought it would be...No worries bouncing a water bottle around the field at 40-50yards...That isnt bad shooting for yours truly trust me!!!..lol

Yea once in awhile a blind hog will find an acorn..lol

There really isnt that much to an AK...Seriously it kinda surprised me in certain areas that I thought would be more of a problem than they were...

BTW...Me and a buddy split some of the cost's to do the builds and it worked out fairly good...And since I want a folder as well, I will have a BRAND new Yugo folder for around $275.00 when I am done...Sometimes being a really mediocre press brake guy has it advantages..lol

Steve...PM sent bro
