Hi Everybody,

The other day I had a customer from Germany make a special request & challenge to me.

He wanted a NMFBM sheath but he wondered if I could do something like my speed holster rig where the spine of the knife is exposed.

I thought about it & I had done some sheaths where the back is able to spread apart, and the tension of the kydex kept the knife in there. (see pics below) but never a exposed back.

I have seen sheaths that the blade breaks through the edge part of the sheath in shoulder rigs, Those scare me  but never a fully exposed spine ?

I looked around the net & could not find it in kydex.

I did see some that were like the break back sheaths I have made in years past.

The other contributing factor of being able to do this, is that I have become quite proficient at making rubber nylon laminate straps due to the huge GG&G tomahawk sheath order I am constantly doing (we are at over 1000 now!!) SO I could make custom straps, with pull the dot snaps.

The secondary benefit (or primary depends on how you look at it) is that you do not have to use a drop leg attachment with this sheath !!!! because you only have to lift the blade about 2" then it is clear of the sheath.

Here are the pics,
It may take a couple of post to get them all but it will be worth it.

First some of my old break back sheaths;

Did this CS sheath about 8 years ago

Thanks guys, & the cool thing is you do not have to use a drop leg attachment !!!! :D

Just like a quickdraw gun holster,,,,,,,,, and the turkey pic now has me hungry,,,,,hafta cook something,,,, thanks Dave,,,,lol :D and very cool sheath.:thumbup::thumbup:

One other really cool thing is that it is way easier to clean, with the exposed back.:D

Man, that looks awesome!

Will it fall right out if the strap accidentally unsnapped?

I think you got a winner with this one David.

I think you got a winner with this one David.

Thanks Man,

It will not fall right out but it will be less secure.

I would recomend using the talon hole lock (Buy Brown exclusive in the kydex world) with a peice of para-cord to make sure if you are in rough country.

:D

Great sheath! I really like the idea! It makes drawing this long blade much easier :thumbup::thumbup: I also like AC/DC belt buckle :D

Its a great design.

I had one similar in a leather sheath before and loved it. Made re-sheathing a big blade easy as well

Wow Dave! That really is a great idea. Now we need one for the AK so I can stop using my drop leg attachment for it. ;)

Good job!

Great work, Dave! I see a possibility here for using on a pack, as well. Cool idea and great execution!

Very cool great idea:thumbup: Also really like the Hawk sheaths can you do something similar for a K5
