So Mr Koster puts this knife up for sale, and it's got a kauri handle, and a copper powdercoated blade, and it is a beautiful thing. I'm broke, of course. I'm sure it will disappear in a day or two, but somehow it manages to fall off the page(??WTF??). it get bumped for another look, and falls off the page again(??WTFx2??).

and now it's MINE!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

my search for a fixed blade EDC is now complete. It looks even better in real life :)

One question for the maker: Do I have to worry about the finish oxidizing or tarnishing? Do I have to worry about cutting acidic things like tomatoes? It being copper and all.

treat it like copper...if you want it to patina...let it. If not, hit it with some metal polish (flitz, simichrome) now-n-then and it'll stay shiny.

Glad you like it!

The slice goes from the lower bit of sodden napkin to just past the last butterfly. it's not very deep though. I should probably get stitches, but after hearing of glockman's troubles I say Funk Dat!

HOLY TOLEDO!!!

You made my heart skip a beat!

Hey Dan, what do you feel about this one? Pride or shame? :p

How did you do that Nimick?

That is a good looking knife!

On a cut like that DUCK TAPE is your friend!! I personally hate getting stitches and avoid it if I can! Here is what you do...

Put a wrap of kerlex (gauze) around the finger and then apply the Duck Tape. The tape will act like a splint and keep you from easily bending the finger so the edges of the laceration will stay together and heal nicely.

Watch that you don't apply the tape to tightly, you want it to act as a splint, not a tourniquet!! You can check circulation by checking capillary refill of the affected finger. Press down on the nail bed and it will blanch, it should turn pink again within 2 seconds. Any longer than that and it it too tight!!

Change the dressing at least twice a day and keep neosporine on it. Clean it with soap and water when you change the dressing and keep it clean and dry in between times.

Watch closely for signs of infection, but if you follow the above suggestions it will heal nicely in a 5-6 days. Signs of infection include purulent drainage, redness, fever, soreness, swelling, and pain. If you notice signs or symptoms of infection it is time to go to the doctor!!! Don't mess around with an infection as you could loose a digit!

Good luck with your new knife!

Thank you very much for the advice. Butterflies, scotch tape and neosporine seem to be doing fine for this one. I will keep this in mind though. even with insurance, getting stitches is a royal pain in the ass.

This seems like something I should have learned in boy scouts.

Nothing like a beautiful knife, a cut finger and great medical advice to make my day.

Surprise! You wouldn't be former military would you?? I don't know any civilians who do this. I learned a very similar technique years ago while still on AD...
