Spoke to Mike in Customer Service at Spyderco and he was a really nice guy. You see, I have a Delica2 that was a constant companion on weekends -- yard, boxes, trim, etc... -- but it started getting loose, play up and down and side to side. Well, I say to myself, self, this isn't normal for a Spyder, especially Stainless Steel Handled. Self, yes, send it back. OK

Just dropped it in the mail -- REGULAR MAIL!!! I didn't want the hassle or costs of Purolator, etc... so, please pray for me and help my friend get to Colorado from Canada.

Thanks,

RLR

Well, as a Canadian who recently went through this song and dance with a brand new Starmate with lock play, I can say that it was a bit of a pain but worth it in the end I guess.

I used Purolator, and paid through the nose to next-day ship it. Then I waited, and one day I finally get a notice in the mail that there is a package waiting at the post office with charges owing. Yes, to add insult to injury, I got jammed for GST, PST, and customs on the knife on the way back in. I will be filling in the little "refund request" form that came with the (opened!!) package, but I am thanking my lucky stars that the guys at the factory only declared the value of the knife as $75! The tax situation could have been a _lot_ worse if they put the sugg. retail US$150 or whatever.

So, my Starmate which I paid full retail for at Marathon in toronto, has climbed in price from the already outrageous $215, up to $235, up to $250 when I add all the shipping and taxes. Not cool at all.

On the bright side, my Starmate now exhibits the best lockup out of any linerlock that I currently own, or have handled lately. Good job guys, but this cross-border $h1t is for the birds. Sometimes I want to just start saving my pennies so that I can buy customs from our talented Canadian makers and avoid this crap in the future... I'm growing tired of factory blades anyway.

Collecting Spyders from this distance really teaches you the meaning of prayer, your baby will be fine!

Mr44, if you kept your shipping paperwork you should be OK...I've started getting my imports giftwrapped (!) to avoid duty on the first A$200 (25% tax otherwise!!).

Thanx for the kind words.

As TheBeak said, "you see, the fine men and women of the post office are honor bound to carfully deliver such an important package. through rain, sleet and dark of night."

Of course, with 22 years in the US Postal Service, I learned that quote is actually from Herodotus, about the old Persian Empire,
and not legally binding on my guys.

Our official motto is: D-liver D-letter D-sooner D-better.

(Packages whenever)
