And so it begins..

Wow. Sure sounds like the opening chapter of a thriller, doesn't it?

Here we are on a world where there's a million ways to die. It's hard to know what to do. It's hard enough just finding a single way to live.

I used to be afraid of dying. That doesn't exist for me know. I even sort of welcome it. I just don't want the manner of my dying to suck. This whole flu thing would really suck. Not as bad as being killed by an animal, or being burned to death, but it would still really suck. There was a pre-Stand short story by someone, I can't even remember who, about the common flu mutating and wiping out the majority of the population, very well done, I wish I could remember who wrote it or what it was called.

There are a lot of people worried about this. I am not too sure there is anything one can do if it comes. Make your peace with God is about all that can be done. It will surely change the way our world looks.

Jeff

Jeff's right. What can you do? Anyone that has at least a little bit of a belief in God could agree. I mean, getting the flu is not like getting AIDS or getting yourself killed doing something stupid like drinking and driving. Getting the flu just happens. I'm in my mid 20's with a very healthy immune system. If i'm cut down by the super flu then it's my time. Viruses are kinda scary when you get right down to it. All the wars and weapons that man can make cannot hold a candle to the Assassins of Mother Nature.

One of many things to come. Just a reminder to take care of your business and always be prepared. We can't control the things that are going to happen, but we can control how we react and somewhat mitigate the damage to ourselves and our families by paying attention and using common sense and prepare.
Terry

And that, as they say, was that. They're screwing around with something over their heads, and if it gets out, sorry will not be enough.

Want some halloween reading? Parasitology. You'll choose the bird flu over some of that.

This is for real. The latest is that the 1918 epidemic was also a similar bird flu. And Pres. Bush has been telling the pharmaceutical companies to get on the stick.

I'm not convinced - yet. It's the flu. Even thought it's a particularly nasty strain (and is more or less related to the Spanish one from 1918) it's still the flu. I've survived everything from tuberculosis to pneumonia; I trust my immune system to carry me through something like this.

And if it doesn't? Well, I won't have to worry about finding a job anymore. ;)

My primary concern is how the mainstream media seems to be handling things. A little fearmongering is good for business but things might be getting out of hand.

Remain calm, people. If and when there's a real need to panic, we'll know it. (And we still won't be able to do anything about it.)

How apt.

Don't forget natural disasters. Saw tsunami footage last night. Holy crap, this one guy. One minute he's standing there in a red bathing suit. Then he just stands there in disbelief as this wall of water obliterates him. 38,000 were killed just in Sri Lanka.

1,200 dead in Katrina. 2,000 with the Labor Day storm. 6,000 in Galveston.

Don't forget religious wars. As if it ain't tough enough just staying alive, somebody wants to kill you for thinking a different way.

<hums Louis Armstrong>

...and I say to myself....What a wonderful worlddd....

You're going to die from something, eventually. Why get excited? You only have to do it once.

Panic will solve nothing, but think upon this. If the only present tactic is to seal off any area where new strain of flu appears, the impact on the economy will be severe.

Also, where does the food in your local supermarket come from?
