so i just got my skyline yesterday (darn you 5.56!) and the bead blast finish looked pretty good.... until i noticed some rust already! oh well. 5.56 may be the king of skyline sales...but im the king of rusting blades :( i guess when it gets bad enough i will just polish it off.

too bad kershaw doesnt make a standard production coated model. or do they?

And how did you rust a skyline in one day???

Matt, I'll bet you could rust Ti if you tried hard enough

i dont know. my sebenza, the spine on my spyderco military and ZT 0350. the stop pin on my para2.

and the frame of my scamp

how do you rust a blade in 1 day? holy moley....

I have been working on a polish job, and it is turning out really nice. steel wool to 500 grit sandpaper, then 1000. i will finish with 2000 and then go for a scotchbrite pad and i think it will be shiny enough.

Just a typical bead blasted finish IMO, they seem to rust like crazy on me in the humid southern Okla. weather.

i think the bead blast is a contributing factor, but the items i have rusted are not limited to that finish.

here is the stop pin on my para 2. yikes!!

i had the same issue on my JYD2. i used metal polish on it and now it doesnt have rust problems. so when the skyline gets bad enough it will get the same treatment.

That's just 21 different ways of wrong

I am trying a new form of meditation involving applying a light coat of mineral oil to my knife blades while breathing mindfully and feeling at peace. (Well, ok, not entirely true -- whenever I try to 'breathe mindfully' it just interferes with my autonomic breathing, which works better. But I do feel peaceful oiling my knives. And they don't rust.)

I do the same, I've found oiling my knives quite peaceful.
