Today was really a nice day! The green is coming back into the world here so I thought I'd throw on the pack and head to the woods today.

I really do like this pack! I can hang it up and just open it to get to everything I need. I don't mean open it a little, I mean open it up. I was wondering why it was so light but then I remembered I had carried seven knives and a tomahawk to a meeting it it yesterday and then just unloaded the tools without putting my other stuff back in it. Luckily it was a short hike on a sunny day and the only real effect was that you can see the compartmentalization ability.

The Janus helps me keep up with my extra batteries easier too.

I modded my RC-4 sheath yesterday. I drilled a couple of extra holes so it would be easier to work with for the pals straps on my shoulder strap.

While I had it out I played around a little. The serrations do a reeeally good job at scraping up some fatwood fuzz quickly for quick fire starting.

It was a really nice day for just sitting in the woods looking around at all the new green, listening to the birds, and playing with sharp things. I hope everybody else had a chance to get out!

What is the knife in the fourth pic above the RC-4? Nice sheath mod, it adds a lot of function. Nice pack, is that the Sitka Gearslinger? I am considering the Falcon II, but I am open to ideas.

Edit: Here is the knife. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=723770

Yep, your edit is right. I had fun with it today too...which you might have guessed if you saw the last pics in that thread.

Yeah, that's a Sitka. It's not a large pack a little smaller than what I'm used to...but that is one of the reasons I chose it. It's a great pack, really comfortable to me. I like the way the sheath wears better now than before, it was a quick and easy fix.

I got out turkey hunting Friday and it was a overcast, but it was such a nice day.

I love sitting out in the woods.

Awesome pics, I like your pack.
I can't wait to get out this spring. Long overdue.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked the pics. I'm really glad the green is back and life is returning. But as always, I'll soon be regretting all the pollen and back to looking forward to my favorite season...autumn :) .

I enjoyed your pic a lot.. so sick of canadian winter.. I went for a Maxpedition Vulture II, 3 sizes rolly pollys and a water pouch.. gotta love those molle options.

Considering a jumbo versipack or a mongo too

thank you for this preview of spring! :)

Thanks guys, yeah...rained all night last night...storms today...everything should be even a little greener tomorrow :)

Now that I see the over-all size of this pack I am thinking about a larger one for camping, but I do love this one for urban jaunts and day hikes, for that it's the perfect size for me.

How do like the serrations on the RC-4? Do they add to the function of the knife in the wilderness?

MISTWALKER..... Had some stuff on my plate today but tomorrow is OPEN! Headed out to try my new KELTY TREKKER 3950 (I know huge pack for day-ish hikes) and My new...

I will try to get some good pics also.

Well...maybe it's partially because I'm already predisposed to liking serrations, but I honestly think so yes...or at least it does for me and my wants. The serrations make carving the "V" notch in a hearth board easier...not as easy as the saw of an SAK but a lot easier, more accurate, and less damaging than hacking it out and less "trauma" (less splitting) to brittle woods like dead red Cedar than with batoning. Also I like how the rear most serration gives me a good dedicated fire steel striker. And then, as seen above, I like how they quickly scrape and shred fatwood fuzz for fire starting because here fatwood is my go-to tinder. I think it will be handy for cutting bundles of dead grass for improvised water filtration also, but I haven't gotten there yet...it's on my to-do list.
