I finished this a few weeks ago and thought a few of you might appreciate it. Have been wanting to do one of these since starting leather work and decided to just take a Saturday to myself and do one. There are a few things I'd change but it was fun for a first try. I'd like to eventually make some small saddle bags that attach to this so she can carry a few things when we are out and about. The straps are 6oz with a 8oz centerpiece that is lined with some 8oz chap leather.

Years ago I made what was called here a Rip collar for a friends Pig Dog ( I think you guys call them Hog hunting dogs )
It was made from heavy leather to help protect the dogs neck and chest when they were holding onto the Hog .
I dont have a pic of it , but I have just found a pic of the net which shows a close resemblance of what I made , but mine was from leather .

The dog was wearing it when it died from being kicked by a horse

Ken, that is a shame to hear about the horse incident! I have had gun leather customers request these for their hog dogs and while I've considered it, I wouldn't do it for a dog that wasn't in front of me for liability reasons. My wife is a vet and we take our animals seriously. I also worry about liability if something happened to the dog due to a gear failure. Some folks have a lot of time and money tied up in these dogs.
