And then one day you wake up and realize you have a knife collection

I caught the knife bug and I'm not sure there is much to do about it except give in.

It started out innocently enough with a Vic Spartan to keep in my travel bag. Got that one after being caught in Spain without a corkpull and opening a bottle of wine with the whatever I could find in the hotel room. I'm amazed to this day that I never got a cleaning bill for their wall.

Then I had some money left over on a gift certificate to LL Bean and I got a Buck 110 on a whim to spend the rest of the money.

The 110 came with one of those mini Bantams that saw active use as a package opener and all around house knife. I liked the Bantam so much I got a 503 to upgrade to something a little nicer to keep by the front door.

The SAK and 503 were plenty for awhile. Then we got a house and soon I had four Leatherman tools. A Supertool was a Christmas gift, the Juice S2 was purchased to carry around the house and do chores, and the Wingman/Style CS combo pack was too cheap to be passed up.

Then I started reading about knives and discovered the Vic Rambler. I needed one for my keychain. Then I discovered Alox and Swissbianco and realized I needed an Alox Rambler.

My father passed on his Wildcat 59x fixed blade when he was cleaning out his night stand.

Alox lust got greater and I went for a Vic Pioneer. Damn store was running a deal giving money back if you spent over fifty on Swiss Army Knives so I added a Compact to the order.

Now I've got knives in every bag, car, and corner of the house and I want one more.

I'd post for recommendations, but I already have a good sense, from reading all of the old posts, of what I need to get. I just have to decide which sub $50 locking folder wants to come home.

Does it end? Do you ever complete your collection? How do you stop it from getting worse? Is it bad to think about buying a new knife with cash so your wife doesn't see it on the credit card bill?

No, it never stops. You start off liking cheap knives that are nothing special, and in a few months time, you find yourself thinking about how you could save up for that gorgeous Todd Begg Bodega you saw.

Yup, we're all doomed.

It stops when you run out of money. Then you sell a vital organ, or one of the children, and away you go again.

SAKs and LMs? You're barely getting started. ;)

(BTW: Spyderco Tenacious is your next purchase)
