And Yet Another Khuk Marking Question...

...since I'm on a roll with questions tonight.

This one's pertaining to the WWII-issue (supposedly) khuk I picked up from AC a while back. I've been wondering what it means ever since I scraped the rust off it. Here's a fairly clear pic.

It appears to say "SA HW45." It's not quite as easy to see in the picture as it is up close, but it looks like there may have been another mark, not stamped as deeply, just beneath the SA that had been obliterated sometime in the past. No other markings besides these. Any thoughts?

Again, thanks in advance.

I was gonna make up something about how remnants of Hitler's Brownshirts, the Sturm Abteilung (SA), exported khuks to Egypt under the Helwan marking (HW) at the end of the war in 1945 (45), and how these khuks were cursed by all the opponents of the Reich, and that whoever owned one was damned forever, but then figured you either wouldn't go for it, OR would go mad and do something you might regret later, so really? BTSOM what it means. (?) ;)

Sorry.

N.

Flook's book has an Indian "paratrooper knife" marked "SA." He apparently does not know the significance of that mark.

Very interesting. This is the point at which I'd be stroking my beard thoughtfully...if I were a bearded thoughtful person, anyway.

I'm assuming the HW45 is referring to the year. The SA is anyone's guess.

Then again, this very morning I picked up a pickle jar by the lid and it mysteriously detached, making a bit of a mess and leaving a persistance odor of garlic and vinegar in my room that no amount of Fabreez can remove; as far as madness, we need only look at my lack of restraint during yesterday's specials. You just may be right, Norm. You just may be right.

You and me both! I felt like I needed 4 hands there for a few minutes yesterday while I was trying to outshark all you guys! I swear Uncle Bill must be laughing at times when he and Yangdu dangle this stuff in front of us, as they know just what gets us all going. Still wish I had snagged both the hybrid and the 15" Dui Chirra later in the day, just because I already have a 21" and 18" Dui Chirra with tools and that would have made a nice addition, but what do I need another 15" blade for, and more importantly how do I justify the cost after blowing my khuk budget 3 times over in the past month?
(Nice snag on the Dukti sword BTW; I just wasn't sure about the bent guard so held off.)

Really, I have to exercise some self-control here, so will be making a conscious effort to back off a bit. This HIKV thing is getting beyond addictive. (If someone told me that the scabbards of these knives are coated with a substance that once touched requires the purchase of a new HI khuk every other day then I would be hard pressed to call him a liar! (-:)

For now I won't pass over anything incredibly exceptional, but will need to save my $ for the upcoming FF buy and maybe a couple of Randalls I've had my eye on. I also have some trade goods so hope to acquire some stuff in that manner which is pretty fun and affordable.

Regards,

Norm
