This 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 sold at auction for $3,240,000, that's 3.24 million bucks.

I particularly like the rocket exhaust things. Those alone would be worth the 3 mil.!

How about the $190,000 Dodge Dart. I don't care if it had a Saturn V rocket motor engine in it, people is sooo crazy.

As far as I know, the top price paid for a knife was $270,000 for Sam Houston's Bowie.

The most I've seen a modern knife sold for was $88,000 for a Rick Eaton folder (I saw it at Bladeshow. It was exquisite.).

...and I was thinking twice about buying a Strider SnG

Looks like a concept car that went on display at the auto shows ("Car of the future!") but was never produced. How much did that old tractor in the background go for? :D

Proporionately (sp?) it's not that bad. it's 162x the amount of a regular car. If you buy a new knife for 450, then the average pos that someone buys is 2.77-about what a pos costs.

You've got it, Panella. It was a one-off auto show special and, as such, it has a value of whatever someone is willing to pay for it which will be higher for its rarity.

The F-88 has a room being built for it in a new museum somewhere in Colorado. According to what was said on the Speed Network coverage the money man behind the bidder was willing to go 5 mil if necessary (read whatever it took) to get the car.

3 mil???? And the guy was willing to go 5 mil to get the car. I understand the rarity issue and expensive cars and all but I think this kind of stratospheric price point is a little silly.

But hey, who am I to judge. To each his own, whatever blows your skirt up etc.etc.. Some people think we are crazy for the money we spend on knives. Go figure.  :D

LOL, have you ever heard of the Barrett Auto Auction! A friend gave me a copy of their auction, and man, the figures getting called out, tens of millions of dollars. Tim Allen and Jay Leno bid on a lot of cars, lots of actors and celebrities. I forgot what the model was, but there was one car that the hosts said Tim Allen had to stop bidding because he couldn't afford it.

Yeah, they show them on the Speed Channel from time to time. I've even hosted a couple at hotels where I was the chef. I'll always remember overhearing a guy standing in line for snacks. He'd just dropped $50,000 for a car for his wife and was complaining that $2.50 (awhile back) was too much to charge for a hot dog.

I'm also a 1954 model, but I doubt if my wife could get anywhere close to 3.25 million bucks for me at an auction.:D.:D.

But that IS one DAMN nice-looking car!..
