Hello,

Does anyone have any opinion on Ron Hoods TOPS Anaconda? I was surprised to see the specs for the handle listed on survival.com as follows: "Handle: Linen Micarta (not the cheaper Canvas Micarta)" It just seemed like some writing in-between the lines?

PS- I am enthusiastically waiting for delivery of a BM but thought that the Anaconda looking interesting

Oh boy, deja vu! This topic led to a flame war a month or so ago which got rather nasty. Try doing a search in the Busse Forum using "Anaconda".

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

Use the search function on the Anaconda knife to find the links and posts dealing with that knife, the comparison to the Busse knives and Messrs. Hood and Busse.
I can tell you that the Busses are amazing knives, handles included. I understand the snake is also excellent, but I've never used one and so can't give an opinion.
As to any subtext in the comparison of the handles, the knives' designers, to put it one way, Jerry Busse and Ron Hood, are very, very highly respected members of the knife community and this forum. They are acknowledged experts in their fields and also men of great integrity. The two are also associates and friends. Unfortunately, there was a brief misunderstanding related to this topic. That problem is completely resolved. Anyone who tries to dredge it up again will incur the wrath of thousands of members. Don't try it.
Try to avoid doing it accidently. There's nothing wrong with a valid comparision of the two knives on the merits. If you have a genuine interest there, start with the posts that have already been made. If you want to go further, you'll probably find BFF to be an incredibly rich and satisfying resource and community.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. I was not aware of any "war" regarding this topic so I certainly was not trying to "dredge" anything up. Nor did I know that this topic was already discussed but I should have figured it out I guess. I assumed that Ron and Jerry were friends or associates at least considering Ron had tested the BM in 98 and spoke highly of it. I was interested in the Anaconda knowing that a man like Ron Hoods designed it. I like knifes and can own two different brands without being at war. I will take your advice and search the past forum messages. Thanks

OK, I did my research and I fully understand why you termed this topic as "WAR" Sorry I mentioned it, I can assure you it was not intentional.

JMARINO, No harm, no foul partner. Welcome to the forums.

Please don't be put off by the stern response that your initial query received. You'll find that most of the folks onboard here are Busse enthusiasts who place a high premium on real world performance. HJK is a respected contributor to this forum and everything he stated is right on the money. He merely shares an interest with many of us in avoiding a repeat of a recent incident that at best could be described as unfortunate. An issue that you happened to bring up in good faith, has, in the past, been purposely posted with less than honorable intentions.

That having been said, I feel confident in saying that you are going to be thrilled when you finally receive your BM. INFI steel is the real deal and it sets the Busse line apart from the competition. If you're not familiar with Cliff Stamp, he's a moderator here who has done some extensive testing with some of the knives in question. I think you'll find that his results go a long way toward explaining in objective terms why someone with the qualifications of a Ron Hood would endorse a Busse knife. Thanks Bronco, I remember reading Ron’s great review of the knife back in 98 and I immediately liked the BM. I really like the basic tough design that Busse creates, it seems like a raw powerhouse with nothing pretty to get in the way. I find beauty in simplicity. Now it is 2000 and I finally ordered a BM. I guess I just could not forget about having that knife.
