Andrei sent me picture of his last work. I tried to shrink it, cut, combine different pieces together, but finaly decided to post it as it is - in full beauty:

Bauta.jpg

"Strait kris construction (some details may vary). Handle is ebony with mammoth and walrus ivory inlays. Guard is mokume made out of white and yellow metals. Blade is damask simmetrical convex edge."

Andrei is engraver from Tula city - hundreds years old weaponry center in Russia, they made weapons for Ivan the Terrible troops and even before.

Thanks, Vassili.

I asked Andrei - What is straight Kris?
His answer:
"Kris is most known for waived pattern - (snake in the move), all replicas I saw usually look this way. However there are many straight Krises - (contemplating snake). This waves have some religious meanings. too exotic to me so I did not use this pattern. Also I like to accent venetian carnival mask theme - "bauta". I like to keep major focus on this mask.

Kris design is very interesting, especially before islam ages, with human and animal figures and special design of guard to catch and break opponent blade

Andrei"

Thanks, Vassili.
