I watch Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel a lot. Zimmern (the host) always seems to have a pocket knife on him, and it looks like new ones all the time.

This week I watched a new episode where he went to Australia to eat some weird foods (that mostly looked really good), and I noticed he had a new knife and was wondering if any of you saw this too and know what it was?

For all I know they could all be cheap Chinese knives, but I'm sure that you need a reliable knife when you cut up a wallaby, durian fruit or geoduck clam.

i seen that and i think it was a kershaw shallot but it wasnt shown long enough to really tell what it was.

I have it DVR'd and will watch it this weekend. I can usually get a good pause frame with the digital recording; much better than the old VCR days.;)

That guy is my hero. If he's into knife collecting too, I think I might marry him.:D

The folder was a GErber par-frame, but he also had a nice looking fixed blade with stag handle. It was a bowie style blade. Anyone see that?

I think he may be a bit of a knife nut. I remember watching one episode where Zimmern gave his host a small pocketknife (it looked like a stockman of some sort) to repay him for his meal. Seemed like a classy gesture..

Yeah its definitely the paraframe then, I've seen that on other episodes.

The bowie was sweet, I personally think it was a nod to "Crocodile Dundee", it didn't look like a particularly practical blade?

Side note on TV food-guys & knives:
Good Eats host, Alton Brown, appears to be a Kershaw fan.
I've seen him cut fruit with a Ker. Cyclone AO, and steak with a KAI Folding Steak Knife.
His chef knives are all KAI Shun models, and in one episode, dressed as a jungle explorer, he wore a little neck knife (CRKT Dogfish ?).

I like it when the guys are not afraid to snap open a largish AO blade on national TV.
We need more 'normal' people using knives on TV...and perhaps fewer Heath Ledger "Joker" bad-boy, depraved roles.
It's said that those "Rebel Without a Cause", "Blackboard Jungle", switchblade/thug movies was what scared the gov't into the 1958 switchblade laws.

Keep it Up, Andrew & Alton... :)

On one episode he whipped out a ZT301 to cut some cheese for him and his boys. Needless to say, the next day I went out and bought one.

Good eats is one of my favorite shows too. Will have to look out for the tools.

I also think he whipped out a spyderco pacific salt on a head of lettuce one episode.

Alton Brown is just another knifeknut been known to show up at the Blade Show since he lives locally.

I don’t know what my wife hates more when I pause the DVR to identify one of Alton’s knives or when I do the ID in real time. I think I also saw him with a Benchmade on the Orange episode.

Well, I'm not that surprised about seeing him sport a Kershaw, since he has his own line of Shun-sponsored knives. They have caricatures of him etched onto the blades.

He also used an outcast and spyderco salts (Atlantic Salt I believe) on his Feasting on Waves mini-series

Old thread resurrection.

I've seen Andrew use A G Russell knives a few times.

I'm going to tweet Andrew tomorrow, after I order mine, to share the DPx Gear Raven. It would be awesome to see him cut up some rotten fish heads with it the next time he goes to Alaska.

I have seen him with a ton of different blades but it is hard to recognize them without being able to slow it down. I recently saw a rerun where he used a bright red Mora companion(?).
