Bill,
Yes, the handles on a BM can be removed quite easily. All you need is an acetylene torch and about 5 pounds of C4.

I think they could successfully be drilled out.
The holes inside my E-BM's fasteners is about 0.183" and the talon holes about 0.205" and that leads me to think the fastener holes are probably close to the talon holes originally. Both dimensions are very close to 3/16" which is 0.1875 inch and 3/16" pins or bolts could probably be used to replace the micarta handles with wood if so desired.
I admit the wood no doubt would be prettier, but the micarta is much longer lasting and stable.

Let us know what you decide and how your knife turns out.
Wood handles and removing the coating from the blade and replacng it with a satin finish would make a very pretty knife. And a tooled leather sheath would top it off nicely.

Bill...

My suggestion would be that you contact the Shop for suggestions on the best way to proceed on this.
