Just ordered a 15" Ang Khola. This will be my first khukuri and I'm really looking forward to finding out how to use this intriguing knife. I don't know if I ordered the best khurkri for general purpose duties, but I really liked the look of it. Guess I'll find out more after it arrives. :)

I have a 15" AK as well, and can tell you right now that you'll be very pleased with your purchase. Even with two 18" models (an M-43 and a Vojpure), I still think a 15" doesn't compromise that much chopping power for the large amount of portability it affords - I can definitely see myself swinging the AK around all day without tiring whereas the 18"ers might wear out my arm after a couple of hours (I haven't really been in a position where I've needed to chop anything for more than an hour though - unless you're chopping down a forest, I doubt you will either :p)

As for usage, I spent perhaps 30 minutes writing this up a night or two ago. I think you might find it useful :)

Anyways, sad to say, you've caught the HIKV and I can guarantee that you'll end up convincing yourself you want something bigger  - I know I did:

My favorite. Well, that and a 12 in AK villager.

Read safety thread, please.

You will love the AK.:)

Rotte,

I think you'll love the AK. A couple of months ago I bought a 12 or 13" CAK and have been really impressed by the versatility of it.

You can't go wrong with a 15" AK:thumbup:
You did good. Now you just need to start making up some reasons to justify your NEXT khuk purchase. You have to get creative once you get into the double digits;):D

If by, "general-purpose" you mean "just plain work," the your choice was probably dead-on: the Ang Khola is one of the more highly-rated ones as a pure, working tool. I wouldn't worry.;)

The 15" AK is a great blade. The whole key is to get out and use it. The kukri is designed to let the blade do the work, close to what you would do with a hammer.

The 15" AK has been the starting point for many of us - it's a jack of all trades and if there's anything you find wanting in it, you'll be able to better guage your future khuk needs from the experience (if you end up a khuk junkie like the rest of us).

I started with one myself, and eventually found myself wanting something with more heft and bite for wood chopping. I've graduated to the likes of a Samsher, Bonecutter, and M43 for my personal khuk usage. For someone else, these might be a burden if they intend to hike with them or do lighter tasks...

I've been known to crack the AK out now and then for the odd chore though.

Rotte,
You went with your gut and that's a good place to start. For general purpose, most here will that the Ak will be fine. As for how to use it it'll show you once you get it. Then you'll think of other uses as you tire of pulling it out of its scabbard just to look at it.

Congratulations. Welcome to the fever.
(And please, read the safety thread as Esav suggests.)

Thanks guys. Safety thread read carefully. I'm just eagerly waiting now. :)
