I'm trying to find a unit like the Angelo B. Manual Grinding Wheel as a Christmas Gift. Baryonyx Knife will not have one till the first quarter of next year. This is something I have no expertise in but know that my son in law who is studying blacksmithing, and yes he's already made a number of pretty nice knifes, would really like one for the shop he is building to pursue this hobby. If anyone could provide me assistance to other sources I could tap to get something like this for Christmas I would be greatly obliged to them. Thank you.

I have thought about these too. Can you actually profile a blade with these or just sharpen them?

To the best of my knowledge, I'm the only guy importing them in North America at present. As far as profiling a blade, they're a coarse natural sandstone so take that into account. For hard pressure you'll want a helper to turn the crank for you so the wheel doesn't get bogged down. Treadle use requires momentum carrying the wheel through its rotation to the next downstroke, so if you put too much pressure on the wheel it'll stall out. The price one pays for two-handed use with a manual stone. You can definitely do re-beveling work on it, but a helper is recommended. It's doable under treadle power, but will take longer since you can't use nearly so firm of pressure.

I'm the person who tried unsuccessfully tried to purchase one from you. I am going to call you tomorrow for further guidance.

Try searching craigslist and ebay. You might find an old used manual wheel that is usable, or that can be made/fixed to be usable.

O.B.
