Anger and Rudeness in The Cantina

[Soapbox] I've noticed a marked increase in both anger and rudeness in the Cantina over the past few months. I'm not sure what the problem is, or how to fix it, but people need to think before they post. Emotional tone and all the nuances of face-to-face communication--smiles, etc, don't always come through in text messages, so don't assume the worst when you read someone's post. Bottom line, this is Uncle Bill's place, and personally, I think it shows disrespect to bring such things here. I've been guilty of it myself, and it's something I'm working on. That said, I don't think I'm the only one who needs to work on it. This is a special place, a place where people generally treat each other with kindness and respect. That's pretty hard to find on the internet. Let's all work together to keep it that way. [/Soapbox]

Josh I agree and you're right, "people need to think before they post."
And Keith and Ripper has it right on. Just a little more respect would go a long ways to quell what bickering there is.
It would also help if more searches were done on off topic subjects since we talk about a great deal more than khuks here and that's the way it's always been and I would hate to see that change.:(
Bill always ignored the little squabbles that popped up now and then and I think that's a good way to continue. When it's just between a couple or three people they usually sort it out without any interference.;)

Yvsa's right.

Over time, all problems solve themselves, and Uncle and other mods try to practice this methodology for groups.

The mods are required to step in less often if the posters can control and govern themselves, and respect others. So let's all be civil, or all that'll be left in the forums is Mods;).

I post here fer fun. When it ceases to be that, I may post less.

I think the best thing I can do right now is keep my mouth shut.

:D i think those are the latter, Keith. Thanks for the laugh, BTC.

Thank you for the thread reminder, Josh.

Topics that cause me too much pain, or those where I can lose my cool too easily, like people dismissing the second amendment, I avoid or give myself a talking-to before responding. I think it makes sense for the individual to determine what they will say, rather than limiting topics.

A case in point; it was painful learning Hollow and I were on opposite sides of politics, but we have so much in common (and I believe like each other) that we are very careful now in that area. I want HI to stay a haven for openess.

I first posted here in 1999. I have been an infrequent contibutor since 2002. While not the greatest or most witty contributor, I pretty much agree with what everyone has been saying.

I have noticed what could best be called a "clique mentality" for a while, for what that is worth. Maybe it's just part of forum culture (or not). This forum has always been blessed with exceptionally smart, knowledgeable, funny people from many walks of life, and a source of good information about a lot more than khukuris. Bill and Rusty (and now Pen) have had a lot to be proud of.
