Hey,
I noticed some recent questions regarding how to hold/maintain the angle during sharpening. I thought I make a quick video about ways to do it. This is probably more for beginners than for you experienced folks but anyway. This is also nothing new and I certainly did not invent any of this but rather experienced with different approaches.

Comments more than welcome !!

Also, someone has to teach me please how I inbed a video into a thread, this way with a link sucks and it is likely also a link to a mobile device youtube?!

Thanks for watching!!

The link connects to the 'mobile' version of youtube's site, though there's an option (top of that page) to view the Desktop site. I clicked on that, then copied/embedded your video's url here (using the 'Insert Video' icon in the editor here):

Andy,

Thanks! Will download and watch!

David,

Somehow Opera Mini won't show the YT link usually being posted (your fix there and also those Stefan Schmalhaus'). However, the one Chuck posted was displayed. I'll try here the same trick

Ok ... Work well ;)

Edit to add
Watched the video and very good points all around. I never thought of the pressure point in that way :)
Well, your video not only for newbies alone I guess :o

Good video, insights many might not consider re the edge shifting as you go, but very critical on larger knives. Absolutely critical when using sweeping movements the full length of the blade. Am thinking similarly in recent months/year - the handle is something to be held in the usual manner when one is cutting. When sharpening that might not 'hold' true (couldn't resist), and shifting ones grip and pressure spots can improve consistency quite a bit.

Another excellent vid! I like watching you talk about sharpening. It's like watching a Werner Herzog documentary. :D I think a specific discussion about hand/finger placement and angle control was long overdue, so thank you!

EDIT: speaking of Werner Herzog documentaries, have you guy seen "Happy People: A Year in the Taiga"? Really excellent documentary that I watched recently. Rent it, you won't regret it.

Thanks guys. M, I have not but I will rent that one now for sure. I remember "Fitzcarraldo" directed by him, quite impressive movie too!

Definitely watch it and let me know what you think. There are lots of knives and axes being used in it, so you'll appreciate that, too.
