hi all,
I must be searching on the wrong term. Nothing is showing up. I'm sure I'm not the first one asking about an angle attachment.

Is there an attachment for a bader 3 grinder that I can use as an angle attachment?

Something like:

Except that will mount to a bader 3?

Thanks!

I have a friend that owns a pretty extensive machine shop. I showed him a pic of one and provided him with some dimensions and he whipped one out for my Bader in a couple of days.

The main reason folks are concerned with making one for a Bader is the smaller tool arm size. However, it should work. I would suggest a less wide slot-table, maybe 9"X12".

You just make a 9"X12" table with a 2.25" wide slot about 3/4 the way down the center (wide enough to clear the contact wheel or platen) and add an adjustable attachment to it to fit the tool arm. You can probably convert an existing work rest by changing the small rectangular table for the slotted one. Make sure it is rock solid. Once the table is set up and adjusted to the wheel/platen, you can slide the tool arm in and grind the bevel on the underside of the slot to get the table all the way up to the wheel/platen.

My first version had a 3/4" round bar that mounted to the bottom of the slot-table with spacers for clearance of the tool arm. It fit the round clamp hole in a Bader (and most everyone's) tool arm. I changed it to a shorter round bar and mounting block, but it is still the same basic setup.

For the slot-table use 1/4" steel or 3/8" to 1/2" aluminum. I am sure 1/8"to 3/16" steel or 1/4" aluminum would be fine for most hobby folks. Maybe add a doubler plate to the lower portion below the slot.

Does that Bader 3 have threaded holes in the underside of the toolbar? If so, check out D-D Workrest and see if Don can whip something up for that Bader much like what he did for the original (classic) KMG.

An adjustable table requires a pivot. You need the tool arm with the 3/4" round hole to allow the table to tilt. Many brands of tool rest/tilt tables will work with the right bar. The bars for the contact wheel are not what you want. You need the bar with a 3/4" hole and a slot with a screw to lock the round bar in. Change out the screw to a ratchet handle for easier adjustment.
I use Greg Reeder's bars as well as make my own bars for my 1.5" bar machines. Just drill a precise 3/4" hole and then slot the bar back to it at an angle. Tap a 3/8-16" hole on the thick side of the slot and a clearance hole on the thinner side. Screw in a Quick-adjust ratchet handle or Allen head screw.
