angle grinder modification question

i have a couple of angle grinders that both have one normal 6' wheel on one side and on the other side the shaft has a spiral sleeve on it and is secured with a roll pin. its designed to turn the gear on the spindle that is perpendicular to it. i was wondering if there is a normal screw attatchment that i can replace it with so that i can mount a normal grinding disk on it.if they make one please let me know. or if there is another solution to my problem let me know. i want to make one of them for grinding and the other for buffing. i may use one of them to attatch a disk sander to on one end and the other end attatch a pully to drive the belt grinder and leave the other bench grinder as a buffer/grinder. if anyone has any solutions to this problem let me know.

I belive that you are refering to a tapered thread manderal. I f you are try to see if it will come off of the grinders shaft.sometimes they are simply afixed by a setscrew and some times they are afixed by a left hnd thread. It may also be a permanent one peice shaft.

i have already been able to take the attatchment off by knocking out the roll pin. im trying to see if there is something i can put inplace of the attatchment to allow me to mount a grinding wheel or buffing wheel. give me a min and i will tell you the shaft diameters for each one.

Hey not to beat you up or anything, but you'll get better answers by using the right words in the question.

This is an angle grinder:

Sounds like what you're asking about is a bench grinder:

Good luck!

i cant believe i missed that. my mind is in 9871983472987593 different places right now. and yes i meant bench grinder.

LOL ok ok give pimp a break here. I am not shure about the modifications pimp most grinders wich run stone wheels have a flange on the motor side and lefthand threaded shafts so a nut and washer can be used to hold the stones on. I am shure tha you cann mount a pully on it with a set screw but one again these motors with pullies usually have key ways cut in them and the RPM of the motors are usually slower.

this is what one of them looks like but is not the exact same one but you get the idea.

and this is the other one. its exactly like this one.

sounds like you have a nice buffing lathe(polishing machine) though...ok new info...on screen pics...pics are good...puts us on all the same page.

thats what its called. i couldnt think of the name. i want to convert each one. one of them will be stone grinding/buffer and the other will be disk sanding/belt grinding. the shafts are completely round with no grooves in them. just a hole for a roll pin. any suggestions?

it will last me until i can get a better setup. i plan to add speed controls to them using a dimmer switch for a light.

the housing could be removed that is for the gear reduction end and a tappered thread mandrel installed for the buffing aplicatin ho0wever

i still need to make one of them into a disk sander. im trying to keep the sanding together and then the buffing and grinding on the other.

these motors work off the fact that they have a certain number of poles and A/C voltage has a certain number of cycles per min(60) and dimmer swiches dont change the cycles

a word of advise do not get a buffing wheel any whare neer the grinder as the stones carbudom particals will ruin you polishing eforts through contamination

I know where you come from pimp I was where you arwe now once two. I think we all were at one time. And it is hard to say this but I think you might be better off with a small delta disk grinder and a converted maching machine motor as a polishing lathe. and keep your grinders pristeen.

ok. i will find me something else to use for my buffing needs. but is there still a way to convert those shafts to be usable for other purposes? maybe a 1x42 belt grinder. i would like to have one of them power a belt grinder.
