Hallo!
The HI website is great...Dan's infor on Khukuri Dtnamics is amazing!

I wonder if anyone has determined the most effective angle for the blade in relation to the handle. Or is there one?

My guess is there is a point of dimininshing returns when the blade is too curved or less curved. Length would also play a part in leverage...

Has anybody explored this?

Notice that some of the older style khuks like the Mallas and antiques seemed to have a steeper angle than the current Sirupatis and Gelbus and AKs, etc. Maybe just me but it seems that way.

Today you want a khukuri to be a fighter, the less angle the better.

200 years ago, fight in armor, and want khukuri bent like spontoon hawk to drive point into and through armor.

So the more pronounced the angle the more power is available? But this makes it tip heavy or does it effect balance in some other way?

Thanks for the response fellas,

I have been studying the web sites and history behind the Khukuri. It seems that it is intended to chop. So my thought was, if one were to pick a max length, say of 15 inches....is there an optimum angle for chopping power. Is there a point where the leading edge is hampered by the curve? If the angle is too flat, when does it's potency decrease?

Just some wonderings. I'm interested in forging a blade or two....trying to get a feel for the shape in my head and heart before I begin the job. Once the forge is going my hands will do what the heart wills. Just trying to "see" it first.

Thanks again for all your good words!

Shane
