Strider Guys,

When a Strider Knife finally needs sharpening, is there a piece of equipment you'd recommend for touching up the edge?

Also, is there a pre-defined edge angle that you've found to be most effective for the type of work Strider Knives do?

I've seen this question pop up from time to time but I don't know that there's been a definitive recommendation.

Have you changed the sharpening process within the last 6 months or so? Knives I've received from you in that time frame have been MUCH sharper than anything I'd gotten to date. Even the big SOB is still scary.

Thanks in advance,

118 Views and nobody has any opinions on this one? Doesn't any one else dull their Strider Knives once in a while?

Tom?

Mick?

Duane?

Am I all alone out here? ;)

Hey,
Why don't you just ask Cliffy there nancy soccer boy! Just kidding, I had coffee this AM.
Angles: different tools have different geometry. For example; splitting maul vs razor blade.
We try to apply purpose oriented geometry to the tool at hand.
While we are on this topic I will add that any knife maker that works by hand can never assure you perfect geometry to the degree anyway. The key is to work up the design as best as we can, test and evaluate it, market it, and if yours is too steep or too fine we can always modify it later. We work off of whats best overall for that tool.

As for sharpening tools, Lansky is out. Fixtures and all that other stuff is for losing or breaking. The key here is keeping a sharp knife sharp so you don't have to sharpen a dull knife. Fot this task, any one of a number of tools or stones will work, it just takes a liitle practice. For simple field carry, a grey ceramic triangular rod or that EZ Lap rod that comes in the nifty little brass thing (technical talk) are both easy to carry and have worked for me.

This is a good question and it would be good for others to join in. Mayo owns a business sharpening tools, what do you think Mr. Tom? And Mr. Rob, how do you recommend sharpening Talonite?

And finally, if you just dull the shit out of your knife and feel like a retard when you can't get it sharp again. You are, but that's OK, just send it back to us, we will make it almighty again and send it to you so you can start fresh.
All the best,
Duane Dwyer
