Is there anyone in the New England area who knows where i can get some anhydrous borax? I'm in Mass but im getting to the point where i'd drive to Maine if I could get just enough to finish a cable billet. I'll always look fondly on 20 Mule Team Borax but the stuff just won't work anymore. So if anyone has any leads on local Anhydrous sources please post them before I crack. I almost cried when i read the post where Ed Caffrey said he buys it in 100 pound bags. (sniff)

Try looking in the phone book for a local ceramic supply store. That's where I got my anhydrous borax. The guy was nice enough to sell it 5 or 10 pounds at a time.

Or, like Jim Hrisoulas says, you can make your own. Anyhydrous Borax is the 20 mule team stuff with the chemical water taken out.

You have to melt the 20 mule team type, then let is cool, and grind it. Alot easier said than done, and a heckuva lot more dangerous. Be smart, be safe.

If you're interested, it's in "The Pattern Welded Blade" on page 24.
