Animal identification tip of the day:

The difference between a crow and a raven is that a crow has 4 pinion feathers and a raven has 5 pinion feathers. So the difference is a matter of opinion.

(Thank you, thank you...I'm here all week)

:D

Too funny,

The Crow has a bar, the Raven just a poem.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
*Only this and nothing more.”

The r5aven has a slightly curved beak , the crow mostly straight. The raven is also smarter !

In flight, crow's tails are rounded(and slightly squared-off on the end, Raven's tails are diamond shaped.

When trying to identify a crocodile or alligator...
One will see you in a while. The other will see you later. :)

Out shooting crows one day. On the way back to the truck see a warden hanging around the parking lot. Warden asks me if I know the difference between a crow and a raven. Me being me, I go off on a long and minutely detailed rant listing every difference from physical to behavioral. Warden is looking impatient by the time I sum up. So I ask, "Did I miss anything?"

Warden says, "The only difference I'm interested in is the $10,000 fine for shooting a raven" and then drives off.

Best field mark. Beaks are unreliable indicators here in the west. And they frequently congregate in mixed flocks, making the distinction important.

peccaries have straight tusks while wild pigs curve over and around.
